Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is a fun little roguelike that I've been playing a lot fairly recently. Your goal is to make it to the bottom of the dungeon, get the Orb of Zot, and escape the dungeon with it! Easier said then done...

My recent(and most successful) attempts have been as Minotaur Fighters, though I also did a few tries as a Merfolk Gladiator. In past I've also gotten a lot of millage out of Spriggan Assassins and Spriggan Venom Mages.

My most successful attempt was with a minotaur fighter. Cleared out the Liar, got to floor 13 of the dungeon, and got cornered and kill by a Titanic Slime Creature. All because I panicked and forgot I had some scrolls of blinking...

If you'd like to see it in action, Quill18 has quite a few videos of it that are both fun to watch and informative! And of course, we can't forget about the wiki!

I quite like DCSS...although after playing TOME 4 extensively I just can't look to other roguelike for combat system anymore...other roguelike's combat are just boring, especially with melee combat...bump-attack till other side's dead is just boring compared to being able to do lots of stuff with TOME 4's talents...

My best was Spriggan Assassin going down to bottom of Lair and bit into the Snake Pit...

Give me cute or give me...something?

I find that Crawl's major draw compared to other roguelikes is the emphasis is places on meticulous skill-balancing for promoting pro-active strategizing from the players on how they should continue progressing, and the variety of gods that offer different playing styles.

And, of course, there's the uniques. They give Crawl a certain charm that lies between friend-like familiarity, dread, and bamboozlement. Every time I run into Grinder, I can't help but smirk and say, "how's it hanging, asswipe?" before he paralyzestabs me.

The chaosforge wiki has a bad reputation in the community for being out of date and inaccurate. The knowledge bots search engine found on the European server's website is considered to be the best resource concerning information on anything in-game, whereas the forum is good for discussions on things like character builds, strategy advice, and the game's development. However, I think the wiki is fine for looking up stuff like monsters' stats and does has some good reading material via crawler diaries.

Boring melee combat compared to spell though...weapon have no difference whatsoever other than stats...I think there's also complaints of stat imba with Int being WAY more important than others...not sure how long was that though...

Also some design philosophy of DCSS is pretty idiotic...namely the early game should be DAMN hard at the beginning and gets easier over time, or something to that effect...

Also in the end I still don't understand the reason for removal of Mountain Dwarf...

AND SCREW YOU SIGMUND!

I really hope dev will implement weapon special ability soon...

look, ony, I've been avoiding talking all negative about things I don't like in To ME in the To ME thread. I appreciate the bump, but you think you could do the same? It's kinda discouraging when 2 outa the 5 posts in the thread are someone talking about how inferior the game is.
