Needs Help: Can You Hear Me Now

I've got 2 problems with the trope as it is now:

• First, it covers 2 very different issues: The nearly ridiculous excuses creators use to make a cellphone that could solve the problem in one go not work; and cellphones that work where they're not supposed too (super cell phones). It may not be that big of a problem, as the page is soft-splitted, but it's still kind of jarring, especially because:
• The name. From what the article says, it's taken from an advertisement of a phone company. The name makes it sound like this is a stock phrase, not excuses for phone breakdowns nor super cell phones. I had a hard time finding this trope thanks to the name, and I'm sure I must not be the first one.

In my opinion, it could at least use a name that doesn't sound like a stock phrase and also gives a hint on the issues that it covers.

I think you should just make a rename-or-not crowner by this point. And a split option might also be warranted.

I think I'm in favor of the split, but I'm kind of indifferent about renaming.

I go for the split. The new names are conveniently on the page, and split the examples.

I was the creator of the trope's original page (cell phones never work in horror and comedy movies) and was never satisfied with the way it was lumped in with super cell phones. Needs a split.

Seconded. Those names are indictative and catchy.

Deadly Dead Zone makes me think of the Stephen King novel, The Dead Zone (and the movie and series that followed). The term, in general, applies to more than just phones. The alternative suggestion is fine, though, and I'd recommend that.

Also, will one or both of these tropes have to go through YKTTW?

I'd start by taking Super Strong Cell Reception to YKTTW as a soft split, then someone can rename the page to Cell Phones Are Useless after that's done.

The few times that I've looked at this Trope, I've always been stalled at the "Aversions" category. The all-over-the-map nature of these is a key reason why I haven't done this myself. (Another is that I'm supposed to be working on my Thesis and not on Tropes, but that's neither here nor there.)

Perhaps we should YKTTW both Subtropes and leave the current page, with listed aversions, as a Super-Trope page.

EDIT: Never mind the above. YKTTW for Super Strong Cell Reception, and all it took from the Aversions section were two Film entries.
