didn't really announce anything last year either. Year before that they said Portal 2 was coming to PS 3 but that's not really an announcement.

That wasn't a new game.

There will be plenty of Counter Strike: Global Operations.

I'm rather late, but...

[up] Miyamoto is the person who asked them to do Metroid in the first place, actually. It was originally just an FPS engine for a different project, and he offered Metroid to them.
I'm rather sure this is false. Metroid Prime was originally a TPS when Miyamoto suggested they turn it into an FPS.

Retro was making a completely separate game that was scrapped, and Miyamoto thought they'd be a good fit for a metroid prime game. never heard of it being third person.

EDUT: Okay I looked it up. "The game was originally envisioned as having third-person perspective gameplay, but this was changed to a first-person perspective after Miyamoto intervened, causing almost everything already developed to be scrapped. Among the reasons for leaving the third-person perspective were Rare’s trouble with the camera in Jet Force Gemini, shooting in third-person “not being very intuitive” and exploration being easier using first-person."

So everyone is right.

It was the year 2000. Mr. [Shigeru] Miyamoto, Mr. [Satoru] Iwata and Tom Prata from NOA visited the studio. Those gentlemen, stuck in a conference room, reviewed all the progress of the four projects, but unfortunately those projects were not going well. And after that they returned to the hotel, gathered in the lobby and they were discussing about the future and what they could do," he says. "And all of a sudden, Mr. Miyamoto said, 'How about Metroid?' So that was Mr. Miyamoto's idea to have Retro focus solely on Metroid. As I remember, one of the four titles that I mentioned was a first-person shooter project and Mr. Miyamoto thought we could use the game engine from that.

From IGN's feature on the studio, from around the time ''Trilogy'' was released.

I'd like to know more about the 50's X-COM. It looks really interesting. Also weather or not the new Spider-man game is fun or not.

[up]Infamous 2 was set to be released literally the day after Sony's last press conference, and yet they still showcased it at the show.

Anything is possible.

[up][up][up]They're actually more inclined to show off games since they're practically done so they can have larger playable builds and some folks will head out to buy them after the event.
