I'm necro'ing this thread because I found the topic interesting, and I missed it the first time.

Doing a little research, I found out that the so-called [[apocalypse "Pirate Party"]] of Germany uses an on-line tool called "Liquid Feedback". It appears to have inspired the work that was linked by the OP: "Fluid Democracy".

So the question is, given that a major political party in a major nation-state is already using something like this model, what are the advantages and costs that would be associated with using some sort of "referendum" system as part of the governance process?

I think one advantage to this system compared to representative democracy is that the proxy system would (if i'm reading this right) vary on an issue-to-issue basis. It would be easy to say "I like Rand Paul on Pot, but hate him on Civil Rights. I'll pitch for Allyson Schwartz on Civil Rights."

Looks intriguing, but I think that the only way to see if it work would be to... see if it works.
