I don't remember the exact context of that scene, but she's trying to put a shiny spin on a full garbage can...it's pretty self-explanatory.

The trash an does not show that she has gone though a lot of crap though (one of the big things about this trope.)
If Stepford Smiller is wearing a Happy mask The Pollyanna is someone who basically Is The Mask, anything bad happens they deny it or put a happy spin on it.... Nothing is ever bad to them. (Some are stupid, some it's a coping mechanism but they really think that etc.)
The four panel does the deny, Happy spin and backstory. The can does just the spin. The current image shows Nothing

I prefer the current pic. The comic suggestions are too wordy and could be mistaken for Cloud Cuckoolander.
