Discussion of religion in the context of LGBTQ+ rights is only allowed in this thread.
Discussion of religion in any other context is off topic in all of the "LGBTQ+ rights..." threads.
Attempting to bait others into bringing up religion is also not allowed.

This kind of thing never ceases to piss me off. Is it really too much to ask that schools should actually educate people, rather than lie to their faces? "Evidence or gtfo" more or less.
Still a great "screw depression" song even after seven years.Evidence or gtfo renders the entirety of their being moot.
Sue, but here's the thing, not all of these people have made a conscious choice to remain ignorant, some of them have been raised that way and know of no other way.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranForgive them, they know not what they do.
That's reason enough to try, at least until it's clear they won't understand, vs can't or don't understand.
I was raised "that way", but I learned better. If I can unlearn that crap, it isn't that hard.
So was I. Not because of religion, but because of over conservative attitude.

Non Indicative UsernameYou unlearnt all that crap presumably because someone found an argument/train of logic that helped show you the truth and guide you away from toxic ideas?
If so then that's all I'm arguing for, different arguments/trains of logic work for different people, if we can find one that works for some people and reduces the number of assholes in the world then I'm all for it.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ Cyranunfortunately it is near impossible to reason out that which has not been reasoned in

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranSorry, but there was no Easy Evangelism involved. It was a gradual process. For quite a while I tried to buy into what I had been taught, but the older I got, the more I realized it didn't make sense.
Just because it takes a long time doesn't mean it's not worth doing.
Non Indicative UsernameWho said it would be easy?
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranMy point is someone like you didn't come along and say the right thing at the right time. I figured it out on my own. And I don't have sympathy or patience for people who can't be bothered to educate themselves. Even though you pretty much have to in order to get anywhere in life.

The places where intolerance is really bad tend to be the places where those in charge do everything in their power to discourage critical thinking. Someone who thinks about everything that comes their way is harder to control than someone who takes everything at face value. Someone who naturally thinks about things is more likely to start seeing holes in the arguments eventually.
Not Three Laws compliant.Someone like me being?
You say you did it on your own and fair enough if you did, but most people need some help, even if it's just from people debating and discussing an argument and giving it exposure. I don't expect anyone to be bought to reason by a single person making a single statement, it takes more then that to change most people, however part of that change can be exposure to other ideas and interpretations.
Yes a person has to engage in self discovery, but I don't see anything wrong with putting what they need to discover as close as possible.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranIf you want to try and enlighten people on what the Bible really says (according to you), I have no interest in stopping you. But some people aren't going to change their minds, no matter how nice you are about it. So be sure you're prepared for that. And in all honesty, I believe we're better off with less organized religion rather than more, even if it is LGBT friendly.

Oh I'm prepared for that, and yeah less heavily organised religion could certainly be beneficial to a lot of people.
Are you willing to explain what you meant by "people like you"? Or should I just chalk it up to a mystery and move on?
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranPeople who are trying to enlighten other people on the subject of homosexuality and the Bible? What did you think I meant?
I had no idea, thus why I asked. You don't normally hear the phrase "people like you" used in anything but a heavily negative context.
Also I wouldn't say I try particularly hard to enlighten people about my interpretation of the Bible, I've spoken about it here and I've probably mentioned it in meat space if the topic has come up, but that's it.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranFound a great opinion piece about the Orlando shooting.
After Orlando, time to recognize that anti-gay bigotry is not religious freedom

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Just saw this on the A single unified LGBT conversation board and felt, given which state is involved, it bore sharing:
The Lieutenant Governor of Utah has apologised for his anti-LGBT past, after the Orlando massacre.
The pope has said that the Catholic Church owes gay people (as well as a number of others) an apology.[1]
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI like this pope. He's my favourite.
