A Game of Lies

Judas grins, "Oh, do be quiet, young lady. Your voice reminds me of killing Foxes..." He sighs, "Poor Foxes. He was a good friend of mine, but it couldn't be helped. The British would've found us if he kept on screaming like that."

Blue reigned in whatever feeling the cane tip incited. It hovered too close to his nose. Fortunately, it didn't seem like a weapon

" So," he said, "that woman on the radio suggested we form alliances. Shall we, or will we continue arguing until these collars explode on us?"

Thinking about it, he started to sweat under the collar.

Sheriff glared at the old man. "Lay off her; I could probably knock you over as easily as the feds knocked over this speakeasy here." he walked over to the little girl and kneeled down, putting a big hand on her shoulder. "Are you okay, miss? Are you severely hurt, anything bleeding?" With a smile he added, "You want me to rough up that old man?"

She looked down at her feet.

"My head's getting messed with already... I don't like being taken places where I didn't want to be taken... Sorry for the disrespect, Old Timer..."

She fiddled in her pockets and found a pair of dice.

Bly was relieved that the cane was out of his face.

On the other hand, he didn't want the tough guy and the girl getting too close. For more than one reason.

So Blue stepped forward and said, "So, sir. Would you say you have more sense than Cane Guy over there?"

He spotted the girl digging into her pocket. What trinket did she have?

Judas spins to face Sheriff, "Ah, someone fancies themselves the hero. A White Knight swooping in to save the girl. We all know how that turns out," He winks, "Of course, if she doesn't give in to your... for lack of a better word, charm, I'm sure you'll find it with in your right to take for yourself, or have I misread you."

Rock let out a loud, mocking laugh. "Ah, to be Young! To be able to just Shout like that! Well, if I'm being Honest, that's probably more normal than the rest of our Reactions! Though that was quite Mean of you to trip her like that, Sir!"

Judas grins, "It was also quite funny."

The young teen just kept staring at the dice. They made her feel good, for some reason. It made her feel better about this whole situation. She was starting to think clearly, or something. Maybe it was creativity setting in.

She also turned to the man who helped her, Sheriff. She gave him a smile, moving the hair out of her eye. He was much older than her, so his kindness was a bit strange to her. But she was grateful.

"Thank you, sir. That's nice of you to think of me. You can call me...Ace, I suppose."

"It was very unkind of you, sir." Sherif said, turning to face Judas while keeping a comforting hand on the girl's shoulder. "Apologize. Please."

Ace blushed, in an uncomfortable sort of way, when Sheriff put the fatherly hand on her shoulder. "I-it's okay, really. He doesn't hafta apologize. I was being a brat. I'm just scared."

The teen awoke, groggily pulling himself up. His mind was filled with thoughts,

Death death death. As if it is the only thing that matters in the world.

Chatter fills the air, but he ignores it and looks through the pile of things he'd been given. The wallet sure enough had enough money for an eternity of shopping. A bit of joy fills him, though he has no idea why, the memories undoubtedly attached to the emotion hidden behind a sea of fog. He pulls out the letter, and glances around nervously before he begins, skimming over the letter in a few seconds before quickly stashing it away. He pulls out the ring, checks that the name matches the letter, and quickly pulls it up his left ring finger, where it rests on the final joint on his emaciated hands. Finally he notices the cuff links, undoubtedly his trinket.

How amusing, that I would have something such as these. Not that I can use them, the shirt I'm wearing is in tatters. I should really buy a new one.....

He scans his memory thinking of various clothing he could wear. It all seems so pompous in retrospect, so over the top, like it's something he could never have.

On the note of me....... No name.....

He stares at the good for nothing brass cuff links, thinking.

If I'll ever have something to use them for, it's not going to be as cuff links. Too plain. I might as well take a name off of them, it seems to be the only use for such a trifle.

He puts them back in his pocket, trying to conceal his expression.

Cuff Links is just ridiculous, and cuff seems too plain, too much like an object. Link on the other hand is more interesting, the link in a chain, the link in a team. Link it is then.

He stays absorbed by his thoughts.

Still death, why threaten that.

Conversation awakens him from his stupor, and he looks up to see a scene of chatting adults. He stands up to move towards them, and drafts what he hopes is a pleasant expression upon his face.

Rock made a show of tsking, without the smile on his face budging one inch.

"Now, now, shouldn't we all try to Friends for now? No sense Making Enemies so soon!" With that, he turned away from Judas, apparently having lost interest.

"Nice to meet you, Miss Ace!" He spoke as if the greeting had been intended for him. "My name's Rock!"

Judas laughs at Sheriff, "My, you seem intent on this one. Perhaps I should separate the two of you before you try anything improper."

"You know what?" Sprocket said, as he watched the scene unfold, "Emphasis guy, here, has a point. Well actually he has two. The first is that tripping a little girl is definitely not nice, and the second being that she has had the most human reaction to this, yet."

Ignored, Link makes his way towards the conversation, hoping for a chance to insert himself.

Rock laughed again. "What, does that mean The Rest of Us Aren't Human, or something?"

"Hey! You meanie! And ew, I never said I undressed you!" it was pretty clear from her reaction and the sound of her voice that this person was either a child or very childlike, "Stop assuming things! And why are you complaining? I'm giving you all a chance to have any wish you want! Don't you think you have to earn it first?"

She seemed to be dodging some questions.

Well it's now or never, regardless of how awkward this is.

Link raises his voice.

"Some gift. We kill each other for whatever we want?"

He scratches his neck.

"Can I pass?"

Blue spotted the teen. He looked over and said, "Hey you. Do you have a name yet?"

Judas chuckles as well, "Well, I'm human. Born and raised in New York City!"

"Indeed. As the man points out, it was natural for you to be scared." Sheriff said; he clapped Ace on the back reassuringly, then stood. "I myself am... I'm honestly very scared right now, but I'm not showing it. You have to be brave, you know? We all do. Now, back to my proposal: I suggested we reveal our rings and targets to eachother to avoid conflict, but I also don't want to force anyone to do this. Who is interested?"

Ace was feeling awkward and uncomfortable, less from Sheriff's kindness and contact, but more from Judas'...everything. She didn't like being around him. She clenched the dice in her hand.

"I need...I need a game."

She looked up at Sheriff.

"Sorry. You never reveal your hand. Especially when it might be hot."

Link stood, slightly annoyed with all the chatter.

Jeez people, I've been asked question. Perhaps you should let me answer it?

"Link. And we can't exactly avoid conflict after all, do you all want to die?''
