Yeah this is how I assumed the wish to rule the world would work, everyone would just obey Pilaf so no one could stop him.

Raditz might fuck things up later, but if Pilaf has Goku under his control, or if Raditz also falls under Shenron's wish, then Pilaf wins.

And that's why Pilaf is the most evil Dragon Ball villain.

Bulma actually mentions that the last time the Dragon Balls was used was by someone wishing to be king.

And we see later that the world is ran by a singular king.

So honestly, Pilaf wishing to rule the world would probably just change it from the last lineage that did that.

[up][up]Pretty sure Raditz would fight off that wish since he's stronger than Kami. Finds out Goku failed to conquer Earth because of Pilaf, proceeds to conquer it and report back to Frieza.

Huh, well okay then. Guess Pilaf is doomed.

So do you guys consider Cell to be a clone of the fighters he’s made from, or not?

I mean, if Pilaf wished to rule the world tomorrow, probably nothing would change for our main characters since they don't really care about things like that.

I always thought that was the big fun joke about Pilaf, that we - the audience - know he's an evil (if incompetent) megalomaniac who needs to be stopped from getting world domination, but that our "heroes" don't really care and only kept thwarting him because he kept screwing with them, and later just completely accidentally.

If Pilaf waited for one of those years long time skips when the heroes aren’t looking for the dragon balls, he probably would have gotten away with it

Not just Pilaf. Commander Red would have gotten himself those extra inches he so desperately desired if his desire for balls had only happened a year or two later....or so we think, but remember that Goku would always make sure to grab the 4 star ball since it was his Grandfather's memento.

Which means that even if he's actively not looking for every dragon ball, he's always trying to get that one back, and that means the villains will likely be running into him at some point anyway.

So it's actually something of a Damned If You Do Damned If You Don't scenario. As long as the 4 Star Ball is in play, Goku is always gonna be in your face.

Double post because I found this video someone made of the fifth Naruto Opening with DBZ characters.

It's not bad. The song even kinda works well with that part of the Buu Saga.

Ironically, I'm pretty sure if you asked Goku "hey, can I borrow this Dragonball to make a wish, then you can have it back" he would probably say yes.

But then, it's a reasonable assumption that anyone searching for all-powerful reality warping artifacts is doing so for selfish reasons, rather than the completely sentimental reasons Goku is, so it makes sense that nobody thought of that.

...I love that, because it's completely true.

It kinda brings me back to my old ideas about how it's pretty much impossible to fight Goku because it's almost always a fight on his terms.

You can't outsmart him (well, you can but he can power level his way through that), you can't use some technique that doesn't require power, because he can Power Level his way through that if said technique isn't powerful enough, and while you can theoretically Out Power Level him, you only get maybe one chance to do that, and if you miss it....he's going to come back much stronger than you and Power Level you right into the ground.

So how do you beat him?

With a stick, while he sleeps NO! HE JUST POWERLEVELS HIS FUCKING WAY THROUGH THAT!!!!

You ask nicely. Then you run off to a private place, and make your wish. Of course, that introduces another issue. The wish has to be something that works around the fact that Goku is more powerful than the Dragon's creator, otherwise, even if the wish is directly targeted at him, it might not work.

Come to think of it, if a villain wished to have everyone on the planet worship him as the planet's ruler, would that affect the Z Warriors who're all stronger than Dende.....which is all of them now that I think about it?

It's not something that would directly harm him, but we've never seen anyone try a more indirect wish like that.

Shenron tends to be a Literal Genie so I think at best Pilaf's takeover would be similar to the implied ancestor of King Furry who wished to be king. As in people would put up with him until a guy with a big number comes along and takes him out. Even then I feel the reason why King Furry's family has been in power this long is simply because they didn't screw up long enough for people to just accept it as the new status quo. I don't see a comedic villain like Pilaf managing that

Is Shenron a Literal Genie?

The only time I can think of when he did that was with the Pilaf Gang's wish (turning them into babies, when I can't imagine them wanting that).

In fact, in most cases he asks for clarification when the wish might result in an undesirable situation (like how Frieza would have been restored in chunks since that was his state when he died).

Hell, we know that under the right circumstances he'll even go above and beyond what's asked (as seen with Orange Piccolo in Super Hero).

So if the wish was short sighted, I'd imagine he'd want to let them know if there would be any drawbacks to it.

Though it does raise the question if the Literal Genie thing can work on people stronger than him. Sure, the wisher gave their consent... But didn't word it right. tongue

Shenron is really fair in terms of wish grantees in fiction. He works dillgently to do said wish, gives out all potential issues with it before granting it. And says if theirs any problems

[up]Which leaves only one explanation:

Pilaf is so incompetent that he managed to get a Literal Genie / Jackass Genie result from a being that usually manages to avoid being either.

Exactly.

So Pilaf must have screwed up really bad. Like it's pure Epic Fail to get screwed over by a wish in Dragonball, but he pulled it off.

The biggest example of Literal Genie in Dragon Ball is Porunga transporting Piccolo to Namek, but on the opposite side of the planet where everyone wants him to be.

Porunga is different. Maybe he's more like that.

Or maybe since he's rarely summoned compared to Shenron, he can make those mistakes, while Shenron is more used to it so he can take other things into account.

Or perhaps since Dende himself pointed out that they should have wished for him to arrive right there, you need to be more specific with Shenron.
