This seems to be the go to trope for "this character is clone" even though it's supposed to be about to be about a character's angst over the fact that they're a clone. I think we have a case of Missing Super Trope here.

While I feel that it's misuse I've seen, I'd prefer a wick check.

Were all threads (where applicable) supposed to have wick checks or be closed immediately, or just the ones asking for renames, cuts, or other destructive measures?

But seriously? We don't have a trope for clones? I don't think I've ever seen a use of clones where it wasn't used for a specific purpose (angst, replacement, copy, mooks you can kill without a karma loss, etc.). That is, whenever a clone appears in a work, it's tropeworthy in itself.

OP must make a fully fleshed argument. If arguing misuse, one must prove misuse in the OP.
