So, has anyone on this forum ever actually beaten these incredihard games?

My records (playing the Capcom Classics releases):

Ghosts n' Goblins: got to level six.
Ghouls n' Ghosts: level 2
Super Ghouls n' Ghosts: can't get past level 1

Haven't played the Wonderswan one or Ultimate GnG yet.

Played an emulated version of the very first game, got to a part that I remember as having some sort of lethal whirlwinds, and died over and over and over and over and over . . . Not even unlimited lives got me past that part.

That's Feo . . . He's a disgusting, mysoginistic, paedophilic asshat who moonlights as a shitty writer—Something Awful

"Lethal whirlwinds"? If we're both thinking of the same part, then that's the second game, not the first.

Ghosts 'N Goblins: Haven't won the game on NES or Arcade cleanly. Yet.

Ghouls 'N Ghosts: I've beaten an emulation of the Arcade game without savestates. Pretty sure the Genesis version has infinite continues, so I'm quite certain pumping in a ton of emulated quarters doesn't count as cheating.

Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts: Beaten the SNES game. As mentioned in the Tough Games You've Beaten thread, I played it through, then played through the game a second time (As every GnG game requires) but had a hell of a time trying to get the Goddess' Bracelet and keeping it long enough to beat the second-last boss. So I left my SNES on at the Continue screen and went to bed. Had to leave my SNES on for three days before I was able to finally beat it.

[up] It's the japanese name for the series in japan.

It even got it's own spinoff where you play as the strongest of all the Red Arremers, Firebrand.

We're talking about a series where just getting past the first level is considered an achievement. Yeah, it warrants a new word.

Okay, my current records:

Ghosts n' Goblins: Level six (the upward climb where you re-face a lot of bosses)
Ghouls n' Ghosts: Level two (the broken windmills)
Super Ghouls n' Ghosts: Level three (magma-filled cavern)
Note that these are all based on the Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 1 versions (meaning the first two are arcade-emulations), all with default settings.

Also very nearly managed to acquire the Saturn version of the trilogy, but got outbid at the last minute. Damn.

Finally, here's something I think ya'll will enjoy:

The Arcade version, my uncle bought an old modded arcade cabinet just for fun in his store, we could put new coins at the push of a button.

I think the Arcade version is easier due having more precise controls and uppward projectiles.

I like that the game gives you the rush of death being just a touch away. No game has that, except for like, Devil May Cry or Demons Souls/ Dark Souls.

But other than that, the games are bullshit.

[up]In my opinion, only DMC3*

has this rush, the others are not hard, specially DMC2.

That's kind of a stretch, then any game with harder difficult settings would also qualify.

You'd be surprised. Most harder difficulties settle for the "enemies take longer to kill" copout and call it a day.

Super Ghouls N' Ghosts. Got to the second stage of the last boss with the Goddess bracelet while retaining the gold armor and nearly killed it.

Then my dad walked in and tripped over the power cord, turning off the game. That was the closest I ever came to beating it.

I only played it when one of my friends was over, since trying to beat the game was our shared project; we would never leave the game on to retain progress for more than one session.

I think the Arcade version is easier due having more precise controls and uppward projectiles.

I don't recall there being any upward projectile weapons in Ghosts n' Goblins. Unless you meant Ghouls n' Ghosts (yeah, they're easy to get confused).

Ironically, controls are pretty much the only complaint I have about the first one—it always throws me how climbing and ducking work in the first Gn G. When you think Arthur is at the top of the ladder, you still have to hold up a bit longer so he'll climb completely off it, and sometimes he can get stuck in a crouch which makes him a sitting duck.

Still can't get past level six in the first game.

Beat the original(somehow) and Ultimate(sort of, I haven't gotten all the collectables but I've been through all the levels twice, which counted in every other game). I've beaten another too but I don't know which one, as I did not own it myself. I just remember playing it after I beat the original Metroid, which gave me the delusion I was good at platform games.(NO)

The NES game is bull, play the arcade version instead if you can.

Are you implying the arcade version is not Nintendo Hard?

It is not as close to impossible, enemies don't spawn where you are standing there, platforms are easier to make out, the Red Arremers are possible to sneak up on and not nearly as erratic in their flight patterns, the Degraded Bosses who still have as much health and move just as fast are easier to run away from and though the shield is not as useful it doesn't need to be.

Am I misinterpreting what it means to be Nintendo Hard? Maybe I should have said the arcade version feels less sadistic because that's what I meant.

edit: The last time I played Ultimate I played on survive more than two hits from most enemies mode in an attempt to make the treasure collection more bearable(it wasn't) so I mistyped somethings.

To be honest, I never quite understood "Nintendo Hard" either. Most NES games aren't hard.

I never played Gn G on NES, but I'd still call the arcade version a little sadistic.

Then you should, GnG on the NES will change your opinion about the Arcade version very quickly.
