Someone actually created a book that demonstrates this trope. Maybe we could crop something out of this photo?

I like the image where the book is open! grin

I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting Agency

[up] I do too, although the text isn't very clear.

More pics of the book can be seen here.

Here's one cropping attempt:

The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.

Is there a more zommed-in version of this image? The text is rather small there.

Also, using Google's "search by image" function gets me The US House of Representatives.

[up]The original pic is slightly larger, but if I use that, size limitations mean I have to cut edges off, making it less clear it's a book, and I think that hurts the image.

Since it depends entirely on reading subtitles, I'd say no.

[up] That's pretty good, but there's something about the book that I like better.

[up][up] That one overlaps with whatever trope we have for technobabble, I think. I prefer the book, really. It's simple and more unusual.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

So would anyone strenuously object if I went with the book-cover one?

I don't particularly think the book makes that great an illustration. Funny, yes, but....

Crowner's hooked...I'm not where I can look at the source pages right now, so if anyone's got another shot from those that they like, add it to the crowner.
