I've been on an Usagi Yojimbo kick lately (even reading the first UY comics via totally legal means) and I notice a weird detail while watching the Usagi trilogy of TMNT 2012 episodes.
When Usagi investigates the charred village before he meets Akemi and Kintaro, he takes his arms from his sleeves so his sleeves just flap around in the wind and his arms are, like, bundled with the rest of his body.
Not sure if that description made sense, so here's a screenshot:
What's up with that? Is that a thing samurai/ronin did for some reason? Is that something Usagi does in the comics?

The Coat Cape is often seen in Japanese media, to signal that someone is tough. Though it's not exclusively Japanese, as European military leaders have worn great-coats like capes.

Wait, this counts as that? Huh. Normally, a coat cape is more cape-like, but all right.
It's a bit of a variation, where you fold your arms inside your coat. I've seen it a fair bit in manga and anime where people are dressed in Jidaigeki fashion, possibly at least partly to save time with drawing. It might also be something done for real, both to stay warmer and to get access to hidden weapons.
J's Reviews is doing a retrospective of the 2012 series. The videos focusing on seasons 1 and 2 are up so far.
What is it with giving Raph full head bandana?
reference to his more recent TMNT design I think, in Rise

Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.It was a thing in Rise, and then was used in the new movie.
It might just be another way to differentiate them, after different bandanas, and different body types.
One Strip! One Strip!> It was a thing in Rise, and then was used in the new movie.
I think it might have started with the live-action movies produced by Michael Bay.
The Bay films popularized the idea of Raph wearing a bandana, but even the Mirage comics (starting Issue #9, where he's also using tonfas) had him wear one for a bit with the rest of the Turtles. Also, the Next Mutation gave that head style to Leo and Donnie.
Fortnite x TMNT is out btw. Man the designs are really great, arguably the best in the decade.

Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.relevant to the topic
Dover dedication to the Ninja turtles◊
I had google just to be sure it was real
New theme music also a boxOh snap, where did that come from?! Must have been recent because I never seen any of those big signs dated to 2023!
Still insane how TMNT started off as an overly edgy parody of Daredevil, right? Can't imagine Eastman and Laird at the time thought their little indie comic would be as big as it is now.
> Still insane how TMNT started off as an overly edgy parody of Daredevil, right?
yup
Hand clan,foot clan
New theme music also a boxShame Mirage itself is gone.
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.An awesome Japanese fanart piece for Mutant Mayhem, with a couple of sneaky cameos.
"It's just like... a series of overlapping curses." - Flower Knight DakiniSomething odd happened the other day. Was watching the old Spider-Man: The Animated Series episode "The Alien Costume." K Ingpin gets his hands on something called Promethium X, a new substance space that Rhino took from a crashed space shuttle. It's said to be as powerful as plutonium, but it also isn't radioactive until it is heated, which means you can carry it in you pocket. To use the Prometheum X, scientist Smythe needs control rods that you'd see in a nuclear reeactor and specifically says he wants ones made of lidium 90. (Unsure of spelling, as it was spoken.) Okay, you ask, but what does this have to do with Turtles? Well, I googled lidium 90 to see if it was a real thing, and all the results I got were from the old 1987 Turtles series. Apparently in one Season 3 episode the macguffin was a substance called Lydium 90, "Harder than diamond, more beautiful than gold." It's weird that two different series would end up using the same made up name for two completely unrelated substances, and no, I checked, there are no staff in common between the two episodes, at least not on the writing side.
Maybe they meant Iridium?
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.So apparently this is happening over at IDW in June, and HOLY FREAKIN COWABUNGA:
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks Marathon
Missed the chance to call it Turtles Forever and Ever
"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."Hah. Everyone there has met except for Rise Raphael and original Cartoon Raphael.
One Strip! One Strip!Right looks more like Shredder Returns than the 80's cartoon
Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.Huh. Seems OG 80's shredder is the Big Bad. We've also got 2012 tiger claw and 80's Stockman fly and Krang. Who are the others? Cant remember.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
I'm finally getting to watch more full episodes of Rise and I'm enjoying myself immensely. I'm doubtful this version will get any continuation soon, but I would definitely want to see the season 3 and 4 plotlines they had planned. Especially as the Rat King was supposed to be the main villain in 4. Beyond that, I'd want a proper home media release, with all the episodes. Two DV Ds with just a few episodes each is very early 2000's, and not in a good way. Another thing that comes to mind would be how awesome this version of the show would be as a videogame, if they can replicate the high-flying intense moves.
