If they ever came out with a complete set of Bill Nye The Science Guy that doesn't cost thousands of dollars, I would buy it in a heartbeat. That show definitely shaped the course of my life. I think part of what made it good is that it managed to simplify complex topics, but at the same time wasn't condescending to its audience. Also, they did a good job of not making it overtly kiddy, so it's actually tolerable for adults, which is probably part of why they sometimes even show it in high school classes (at least they did when I was in high school).

Ok, not every educational show is live action (I'm thinking specifically of The Magic School Bus, here) but most of them are, so this seemed like the best place to put this.
I grew up with some of the best educational shows ever devised, as far as I'm considered, and they had a big hand in making me the kind of person I am today. I've never quite understood why people always assume if it's educational it can't be interesting to kids.
But it's an interesting question: what makes a good educational show great? I'm not going to lie, there were some educational shows when I was growing up that I never gave the time of day, but so many of the others were great - even looking back on it, the were the kind of shows I'd still love watching even as an adult who knew what they were trying to tell me.
What are you guys' favorite educational shows from when you were kids?
