DC owns the HB superheroes? Maybe you mean Warner Brothers (DC's owners.) In that case yes, they could do a JLA thing if they wanted.

But yeah, those characters were *awesome* and deserve to be brought back for a new generation to meet, updated for the times maybe (but keeping their essence intact.)

Let's see... I recognise Space Ghost, Birdman, Blue Falcon and Dynomutt, Thundarr and that princess he hung around with, and I think that's one of the Herculoids in the background.

And yes, this should absolutely exist.

[up]Correct. The others are The Galaxy Trio (Vapor Man, Gravity Girl and Meteor Man), Samson and Goliath (the lion),and the Mighty Mightor. Oh and Birdman's hawk Avenger.

The piece is also a homage to the cover of Justice League Of America #1 (second series).

Edit: Wait, Thundarr is not in the picture, that's Zandor (also from the Herculoids). That does seem to be Princess Ariel from Thundarr though.

It might be Princess Ariel (I think, though, that it's the female lead from the Herculoids), but I feel I must point out that Thundarr is NOT a Hanna-Barbera character. Thundarr the Barbarian was a Ruby-Spears show. Still, Ruby-Spears library is, like Hanna-Barbera's, owned by WB, so it might be six of one, half a dozen of the other...

Hmm, after checking it does seem to be Tara (from Herculoids) rather than Ariel; she's got that flat necklace thing (though both have the gem-in-the-forehead.) Different hair colors too, not that you can tell here. Besides, why use Ariel but not Thundarr?

Here is the original cover for comparison: http://blog.christopherjonesart.com/?tag=keith-giffen (scroll to the middle of the page)

LOL at Blue Falcon given Guy Gardner's role.

I would think that the Blue Falcon would be more of a batman since he doesn't have any superpowers but as a crapload of Tech

Huh, you're right, that is Zandor and his wife. Something like 60% of my childhood TV was Hanna-Barbera, so I must have rolled a bunch of the other stuff into it.

Strangely enough, I was actually looking for the Galaxy Trio in the picture, but it's been so long since I saw that show I'd forgotten what they looked like.

You know, in all seriousness, I think Time Warner should make something like this. Revive those old characters with a British-style anthology series of G-rated superhero action aimed at kids, a tone sort of like Marvel Adventures. If they sold it at newsagents, they might be able to get some kids into the medium again.

And really, the characters and scenarios could be pretty inventive even if the animation was lacklustre. With comics, animation quality isn't an issue since it's all still images anyway, so maybe they might be even more impressive on a page than a screen.

I'd like to stop grinning, but I can't.

You have no damn idea how freaking long I've been waiting for something like this.

Edit: Oh, wait. This isn't real.

<deep breath> NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-

Addendum: It's still a damn good picture. Love it. Saved it on my computer. I shall cherish it - lol. Anyways, the only thing it's missing, I think, is one or two of The Impossibles.

Cartoon superheroes were indeed my gate into the comics, and I'm sure they were for many other people as well. Hey, maybe if the DC Nation thing works out, WB will do something similar with the HB heroes.

Oh BTW, Space Ghost appeared not that long ago on Batman The Brave And The Bold- they even made the episode look like an old SG cartoon that just happened to have Batman in it! Nice!

(Scooby Doo also showed up in another episode... bah, if the TBATB hadn't been cancelled, maybe the other HB heroes would have shown up in there too.)

Wow, that was cool. The animation was way too good for Hanna Barbera, but otherwise it perfectly captured the tone of those old cartoons.
