The article is not about politics and it is not about what JonTron said. It is about how being famous has consequences and responsibilities, and that it is quite silly to think the media won't report if you say or do something so contraversal.

If anything, I think the article was criticizing the llikes of Total Biscuit and Boogie more than Jon and Pew Die Pie, really.

lol that compilation at the beginning

basically he says Andromeda feels super archaic and janky, like nothing changed from the first game (he hasn't played ME 2 and M3).

Oh, I didn't realize it, but Jim posted his Automata review and he gave it a 9/10.

He had some gripes(obviously) but he was very glowing overall about how it uses the videogame medium to tell its story and how unlike most games that play at quoting philosophers to make themselves look profound and stop there, Automata actually goes one step beyond and actually gives uncomfortable answers to the questions it's posing.

Just like the first one did, only with a game tacked on that Jim actually enjoys.

So Jim posted his thoughts on the Jon Tron shitfest and his site is already buckling down for Breath of The Wild 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Which, basically is just saying if you're famous, you're going to have to start being accountable for your actions and fame has consequences. Oh yeah, and personally, that guy said some terrible things.

That's it.

Yup. totes worthy of rage and overreaction.

There's already 2000+ comments on the site in response to Jim's article. Will probably surpass the Breath of the Wild rage.

The consequences for Jon Tron are already beginning to show - Yooka-Laylee's devs removed his VA from the game because they don't want to be associated with him.

Basically you can't say these kinds of these things and expect nothing to happen.

Basically, he spouted a bunch of racist, xenophobic rethoric and there's been a huge controversy surrounding it. Some people like Total Biscuit have criticized the media for reporting on it and making a controversy out of it, leading to Jim Sterling in turn publishing an article on his site where he basically made the point that when you're famous, even if it's on YT, there are certain responsibilities and weight to your actions and words and you can't just do or say anything free of consequence.

That's the tl;dr

You don't even have to be famous. Just known.

Like, if I posted a bunch of shit about how Jews eat babies, then everyone else on the board's opinion of me would subsequently plummet because now everyone knows I think Jews are baby-eaters.

If someone recognized me where my fanfics are posted, they could also be like, "Hey guys? Drake thinks Jews are baby-eaters, FYI." And then that would follow me. It'd be exporting drama and thus against forum policy, but it'd still be a consequence of my decision to use a public forum to try to convince people that Jews eat babies.

People have confused anonymity with freedom from consequence, even in cases where people aren't actually being anonymous.

I honestly was absolutely clueless about the elephantine pile of endless garbage on Steam until I started watching Jim's impression videos on them. I only ever hear about the important/notable indie releases, no I had no idea there were that many charlatan "devs" packaging assets into poorly coded Unity-engine games to gain a few bucks from unsuspecting people.

I have a friend who's a huge Pewdiepie fan (and yes, he's as abrasive as you would expect) and he was defensive of Pewdiepie. I'm with Jim on this. It was a stupid move and Pew deserves all the negative repercussions he gets short of physical violence. Not sure what Jontron has said, but it sounds dreadful, so screw him.

Horizon Also Has A Better Story And Gameplay Than Gravity Rush 2.

That's a matter of opinion, and one I seriously doubt I'd agree with even if I'd played Horizon. I suspect I might like GR more than the average person. Still doesn't change the fact it qualifies for the qualities Jim mentioned.

Boy, I did a bit of detective work as someone who follows a lot of Jim.

On a tweet about a week back, he mentioned awhile back that it's been awhile since he had felt secure in giving a score to a game before he finishes it. He had that much of a bad time with a game he was playing for review. In the latest podcast, the gang talk briefly about Yooka-Laylee. By briefly, I mean Jim and Laura groan super hard.

I'm usually wrong about many things, and man I want to be wrong about this one. I want the game to be good, and Jim being on the recieving end of another asspounding by feverish fans would be bleh.

The Persona 5 review is up by the way. His only major complaint was that he felt the game would be more suited for a portable device, and was otherwise pretty happy with it, so much so that the 8.5 feels a bit weird, but that's still a really good score.

EDIT: Apparently this was written by Laura and not Jim but he apparently agrees with it and would have given the game a similar score.

Reading the comments apparently the justification is simply that a game not having that many huge flaws doesn't automatically make it a 10/10, which is something that I agree with. To me what makes a game great isn't how little in the way of flaws it has, but how strong is strengths are. A game can have little in the way of glaring issues but not be very interesting or memorable, while a game with serious flaws can be an amazing experience for various reasons.

I think part of the problem with some complaints people are having is just the way we have been trained to look at reviews by comparing them to test scores or w/e. This is part of why I dislike the numerical rating system.
