So I'm studying for the bar and personal jurisdiction is a huge pain in the ass to figure out. A layperson like Romine is screwed without a lawyer. Congrats to Jim.

A layperson is screwed, but the Romine bros don't exactly have a grasp of logic to begin with. It bodes even worst.

So how many tropes can describe this situation right now? A Fool for a Client and Didn't Think This Through are the first ones that come to my mind.

If you're asking which tropes to add to the wiki regarding this legal brouhaha, the correct answer is "none".

It's not only too much into troping real life, it's also super contentious. A bad combo.

Ah, nice to have updates on that. And also updates on the Ventura/Kyle case (gotta love a case where both parties are huge assholes).

Well, in Chris Kyle's book American Sniper (yes, that American Sniper), he related an incident where he claims he punched out former professional wrestler and governor (and current conspiracy theory crackpot) Jesse Ventura at a bar for disrespecting some dead marines. Ventura sued him for libel or something. Then when Kyle got murdered, Ventura decided to take the lawsuit to his estate. Y'know, because trying to get money out of a grieving widow because a self-aggrandizing asshole told one of his typical tall tales is such a classy thing to do.

[up]To be fair to Ventura, a story like that could seriously damage his political career. Having the court decide that the story is untrue could mitigate it's impact somewhat.

At least, that's what my reason would be for such a lawsuit.

Having literally only heard of this story based on this post... I don't see how Jesse Ventura's doing anything wrong. Assuming he genuinely believes the story to be libel, why would he accept to continue to have his reputation sullied because the guy who did it is dead? "Welp, he's dead now, guess I should accept to be labelled a disrespecter of dead marines in books forevermore". Plus, the sniper's estate are making money out of the allegedly libelous book, and the movie it inspired, so it's not like they got no involvement or stake in this and are poor incidental victims of some vindictive celebrity.

His actions seem entirely reasonable to be.

I do like the general tone of the Romine case right now, I have to admit.

  • Romine: Alright, here's my amended statement on why Jim's a meanie.
  • Judge: Uh, sir, this is nearly identical to your last one.
  • Romine: Yeah, I know.
  • Judge: You're going to need a better response, sir.
  • Romine: But it's totes fine, man.
  • Judge: ..............

Why do I get the feeling "Jim's a meanie" might be an actual part of Romine's court statement?

It's actually dumber than this.

  • Judge: Your rebuttal on why this case shouldn't be dismissed due to being outside this court's jurisdiction?
  • Romine: Jim's a meanie and his meanieness is costing me moonies!
  • Judge: You're going to need a better response, sir. One that actually answers the question.
  • Romine: Oh, Okay, I got this. Hrrrrrm..... Jim's really cost me monies by saying my games are poo!
  • Judge: Uh, sir, this is nearly identical to your last rebuttal.
  • Romine: Yeah, I know.
  • Judge: You're going to need a better response, sir.
  • Romine: But it's totes fine, man.
  • Judge: .............. How about we give you time to think on it?

So, with the knowledge that the "Hyper Training" feature in the new Pokemon Sun/Moon games is based partly on pogs (it requires bottle caps), who here thinks he's going to have a field day with this one in terms of joke material?

I think that Jim is on a pretty slippery slope here and he doesn't really see it.

It's been a week since I watched that one, so my memory of what he's said is a bit faded, but I like the sentiment. I get the whole "NES-era games are now intrinsically devalued" thing. I think it would mean way more if Nintendo could include third-party games like Mega Man, Castlevania, Duck Tales, ect...that would be a whole nother ballpark. The thing you gotta remember, is, some people don't care that much. Some people would be fine with the Wii Mini have no Gamecube backwards compatibility or online capabilities. They just wanna play the games and that's it. I can understand that.

The thing is, digital piracy ala ROMS, like comics piracy, was a whole different story before the mid to late 2000's because they there just wasn't much of an alternatives. But now digital sales and rereleases has given everybody more options. The comics industry gets criticized a lot for comics being too expensive, but even they know they can sell way more older comics through the digital stores by selling them for less and having sales constantly. Nintendo could learn from that. I think a compilation bundle ala The Mega Man Legacy Collection, Super Mario All Stars, and the many Sega bundles (as a digital download, not just the NES mini) would be a step in the right direction.

As for his newest video:

Regarding the Fuck Konami News, I kinda gotta agree that if Konami wants to win back the fans, they need to announce (and then at some point release) actual games. Preferably free of controversy. Say what you will about Activision and EA, they put out a steady stream of games featuring their IP. Right now EVERY Konami property is basically Mega Man in terms of being a no-show.

The NES thing does have a number of third-party titles on it, though. It has Mega Man 2, Bubble Bobble, and Castlevania off the top of my head.

Cool. Did not know that. Probably should have taken the 2 minutes to look that up before I ran my mouth on that particular detail.

I actually tried to, but for whatever reason I kept screwing up the embed and it didn't work, and it was late and I didn't feel up to looking it up.

I found this one hard to get through, mainly because I'm not interested in survival games like the ones Jim's talking about here. But I made it through largely because Jim said right at the beginning that there'd be a Fuck Konami News at the end and I always enjoy those.

In a steam greenlight good stuff Jim showed off a game called the day we left, which got its comments turned off due to assholes saying racist shit in the comments. The game did look interesting so here's the link to their Kickstarter.

It does look like a pretty interesting game anyway.

Speaking of Overwatch, when the hell can Jim focus on TF2. Cause right now, Valve is in a huge clusterfuck with the community. Why?

Three Words: Meet Your Match

Pretty much self-explanatory. Now I can't trust valve anymore. CSGO Gambles and less-than-stellar greenlight quality/customer service. Less content on TF2 because we are sick of the same maps, weapons and shit for 9 bloody years.

Hell, if Frontline, Mayann or Iron Gauntlet ever get released, Valve may have fucked it up. And this is coming from a (former) TF2 compassionate fan.

What's up with TF 2?

I haven't cared for it since long before it became a hat simulator.
