It already takes bloody ages to level up for a measly single lootbox in Overwatch. Don't think they can make the system much worse at this point.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence.I level up at a decent rate. I really doubt they are going to make the game Pay to Win, especially because it's already going well for the OW devs to suddenly pull an Activision on us.
Insert the cosmetic argument here. In short, i think OW is safe for now.
Uni catOverwatch is produced by Activision. So...
Is Steam improved since Direct came out? Short answer: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo
It never was an improvement. All Valve did was focus on the abuse devs did with Greenlight and nothing else. There's no regulation, no actual human beings overlooking the games being shoved through the door unless enough people complain about it, and no reason to give a fuck when people will throw money at you just to be with PC's biggest video game platform.
Valve developed a cult following over a few games they made and for making Steam good back then. Between that and Valve being super indie friendly, no one wants to turn against them and no one wants to call them out for being lazy as fuck (in general, not the people who are actively calling Valve out). Unlike EA and the rest, Valve hasn't really suffered any major PR disasters and I don't see one happening any time soon.
Remember, these idiots drive, fuck, and vote. Not always in that order.Which is hilarious in light of this video and the previous being about indy devs fleeing from Steam to Nintendo because Steam is such a shit show.
The way they do it is they bunker up and respond to NO ONE - plus there doesn't seem to be any reliable way to actually communicate with them.
So this has a weird effect of even LEGISLATORS struggling to get anything out of them (See the whole kerfuffle around the EU and Valve in antitrust stuff. It's the same with google - no easy contact methods.
With Valve though, the fact that they just don't even comment on things means that fuel to the fire doesn't get fed except by other commentators.... which doesn't ADD much more than "yeah, we know."
Anyway, Jim is great as usual.
I should have said WAS indie friendly, but it's still an image that the majority sees Valve as. Thankfully, a lot of the more level headed indie devs are seeing Steam for what it really is.
And great point, Laz. Valve is notorious with no communication. They're too afraid of pissing off the wrong people, so they figure it's best to say nothing or play it completely safe. Didn't Valve also go *shrug* when people demanded them to do something about the rampant gambling in CS: GO?

"Gamers under fire"...
Yeah, it's obvious what their intentions are.
This might work on the US, seeing how easily their government is manipulated by corporate lobbyists, but I wonder how this might impact EU/Australia legislation.
I don't think they care much about Australia.
The EU, on the other hand, that's a market they'll want to reach out to.
My Tumblr. Currently talking Dragon Ball and working my way back to Danganronpa V3.I knew it.
Although if this is what they're doing instead of hiring real lobbyists the same way every other hopelessly corrupt industry does... maybe it won't help them.
By the way, after all this EA has lost 3 billion in stock.

EA’s day of reckoning my ass
Sorry,it's the hyperbolic titles tend to annoy me
New theme music also a boxExtruding Assholes are seriously claming the lootboxes aren't just cosmetic because a bunch of cosmetic items would "violate Star Wars canon".
This is hilarious.
EA might be a shitty company but they always provide hilarious jokes.
Keep up the good work EA.
Uni catCosmetic items wouldn’t be canon? Did they see Queen Amidala?
Not Three Laws compliant. No, that'd require watching Episode 1. And even EA doesn't deserve that.
God they could do so much cosmetic stuff...
- paint jobs for the stormtrooper armor like Republic Commando
- Different skins for the heroes such as Hoth Luke
- Unit decals such as the Rogue Squadron patch
- unlockable races
Diving into non-canon stuff is what Star Wars fans love too, they could easily dive into Legends for various costumes and clones of characters like a Kyle Katarn skin using Luke’s moveset and stats or bring in models from Tie Fighter as skins for the generic TI Es.
But still.... sigh.... EA just doesn’t get it. We will never get a good star wars game ever again.

And while Pink Darth Vader isn't a thing... White Darth Vader is.◊
This is all rather funny given a dataminer recently found a bunch of dummied out cosmetics already in the game.
So add that to the list of problems with EA's argument about not being able to do a bunch of cosmetics.

It is.
But it plays safe and doesn't do anything that obvious.
I fear that might change.
