Crap this is kickstarter? I was hoping it was self funded.

Blegh, I need to raise some money.

They said they wanted it to be funded by the people who would be enjoying it and thus have a say in how it was developed.

Same, I thought it was self-funded...I hope it can gather enough money.

Edit: seems they will. They need 28k more and it ends in 31 days.

A bit disappointed by this recent trend of every indie project being funded by Kickstarter... but eh, It's better than projects never getting past conception, I suppose.

It gives exposure to niche projects from genres that otherwise wouldn't get the proper funding. And it's great for established devs like Schafer, Fargo and hopefully Avellone to do the projects they've always wanted to do but couldn't due to a lack of publisher interest.

I just hope Kickstarter isn't just a fad and can actually become a legitimate way for devs to fund their games.

^ I think there's quite a bit of small indie titles able to get good funding from Kickstarter alreay, so it might be ok...

^^ What's disappointed about it? Is it better to see the game not coming at all since all publishers are not interested? And not all indie devs have that much pocket money...Introversion and Arcen Games nearly died by money disease before...plus, yanno, what's bad about we being able to participate in game development? (for some games that have this open by the devs at least)

I like how it's a good way to gauge interest for a project. My only qualm is people pulling scamming shit like The Arkh Project and never actually making the product.

Huh, and I just bumped up from $10 to $50. This is cool, can't wait to see how this turns out.

I'm not going to go $50 like Wasteland 2.

Usually, the most legit people on Kickstarter already have their work half-done.

I'm aware of this. It helps that they actually have some game footage in their video, unlike most of the scams.

And the developers in question are legit and well known. I seriously doubt they would scam us.

So what all will happen in this game? You basically just watch them walk, participate in conversations, and participate in turn-based combat?

Actually the developer compared it more to King of the dragon Pass. I haven't played it, but essentially it involves leading a village (the origins and background of which is based on the stats you choose for them at the start) through a series of conflicts etc.

The devs said it be about leading a travelling community (those scenes with the villagers walking with a long banner are actually gameplay scenes, not cutscenes) through conflicts and making tough choices about how to lead this community and seeing the consequences of your actions with turn based strategy when conflicts become combat oriented.

An RPG where you are the chief of a village/community and lead them sounds pretty cool.

The King Of Dragon Pass with controllable combat? I'm in, I'm totally in!

^ Then I recommend you to play it! There's iOS version for it (although it can be expensive by App Store standard)...

[up][up][up][up] So I looked The King Of Dragon Pass up... Yet another game that I never heard of that looks like I will love it to pieces...

Cheers for bringing that up!
