As far as I know, there is some leeway, but a low-level safecracker will never crack a high-level safe.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence.Beat me to it.

Jonah FalconHoly crap that looks amazing.
The footage is a huge step up from the initial screenshots and it's hard to believe that it's still so early on in development. I love how the combat is playing out.
I do hope the dialogue is a little more fleshed out than keywords though. I know the original Wasteland had an enter keyword system but that + fully written dialogue lines similar to Fallout 1 would be even better.
Can someone rename the thread "Wasteland 2"?
Jonah FalconYeah, it is a bit odd now the game has its official title.
I'm afraid that won't happen. Since the game is party-based, and unlike Fallout, player characters are designed from scratch with no predefined role (other than being rookie Desert Rangers), Brian and the boys decided to ditch the dialogue tree and go with the keywords only. It will piss off or at least disappoint many people, but I can see where they come from - with your Rangers starting as blank slates and being able to be anything from a standard squad of former US Marines to an all-female powerpop band with a healthy penchant for sex and drugs, it's impossible to pull off a dialogue tree that fits all sorts of character design. So, if you want your party to talk in full sentences, you will have to use the parser.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence. To EE did the exact same thing (full party creation with full dialogue lines) and handled it fine. As did NWN 2: Storm of Zehir which handled it even better, in fact I distinctly remember Fargo or Avellone mentioning that the dialogue system would be similar to Storm of Zehir to allow for fully party dialogue interaction.
Full Party creation isn't in opposition to roleplaying and dialogue interaction and there are plenty of approaches to it such as So Z's approach (which allowed all members of the party to speak in dialogue sections in some way or another) or the easy way; for the game to just ask us to designate a leader/spokesperson in the party (whose position would shift if they permadied).
I just think that for a game that is otherwise as text heavy and very descriptive with all kinds of crazy imagery (blood sausage etc) keyword selections in dialogue are just too bland by comparison.

NWN 2:So Z does the party dialogue thing very well, but it also doesn't offer much in terms of content. Wasteland 2 is supposed to be a very large game and dialogue will be largely influenced by character stats and traits, which means that every conversation is likely to have several potential outcomes that are even interconnected, and for each of them you would have to come up with several possible responses for the Rangers, too - which means the amount of lines to write would increase exponentially - if you don't want your Rangers to recite the same lines ever so often. So in the end, it's a necessary evil for the sake of more content. I am pretty sure, though, that it won't end up as trite as simply browsing a list of subjects to tick off.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence. Thanks to whoever changed the thread title.
Yay!
Back to the game:
A lot of people have been commenting on my You Tube posting that Wasteland is what they wanted Fallout 3 to be.
Jonah FalconNot surprising considering that the "real" Fallout 3 basically amounted to a glorified Oblivion mod.
Glorified Oblivion mod, thats an insult, and insult to Oblivion Mods :D

http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/Can we keep the Bethesda!Fallout 3 hate out of this thread please? It gets really boring when it gets outside of the Fallout New Vegas one.
One doesn't want to regret funding this game before it got cool to do so, after all.
So, which tier did you buy? (And you can preorder the same tiers from the Kickstarter as well if you missed it.)
Jonah FalconThirty bucks level.
Mostly because of all these wonderful toys,

Jonah FalconNot a bad haul, Jonah.
I pledged for the boxed copy, but will eventually upgrade to CE.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence.I did not pledge at all, because I am a parasite.
Also because I have no money.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Well, you don't have to pledge - the preorders are the same as the reward tiers.
Jonah FalconNot exactly. The pledges stack. The preorder packs don't.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence.True. But if I were going to do that, I may as well have pledged in the first place.
I don't even have a computer to play this on. The only real reason I'm interested in it is to see what the reaction to a modern old-school style RPG in this day and age will be.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."
Ave Maria!
