Paul Mc Cartney and his late wife, Linda, had the complete stupidity to release a song in the wake of the Bloody Sunday shootings in *Derry City, Ulster, on the 30th of January, 1972.
That song was "Give Ireland back to the Irish". Released on the 19th of February, 1972. Less than three weeks after the deaths of thirteen demonstrators at the hands of the First Battalion, the Parachute Regiment. A song more calculated to inflame the already impassioned Catholic population of *Ulster and to act as a spur to recruitment to the Provisional Irish Republican Army, which really kicked off as a terrorist organization could not have been done if he and she had tried. He and she should have kept their mouths shut. As far as I and many others are concerned, that chippy boggy scouse bastard has blood on his hands. And he should never be allowed to forget it.
And that is why I despise Paul Mc Cartney as much as I despised John Lennon, and still do as a matter of fact, even though that hypocritical bastard is dead.
- Note, I do not use the alternative name for the Province of Ulster, nor the name commonly used for Derry City whenever it gets referred to by the British Broadcasting Corporation simply because I have this whole "plague on both your houses" thing going on.

Well, I think that's about it for that, then.
NEXT SUBJECT
no one will notice that I changed thisGood to know, but not really related to people not knowing who he is.
The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well.Someone asked me a question. I answered.
(*Rereads*) Ah, I see.
The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well.Only if someone is more of a fan than someone who simply enjoys consuming it. Anything beyond that is ignoring the basics of people just doing what they enjoy. After all, there's no incentive to learn about it.
Fight smart, not fair.True. Though if you do that I will laugh at you contemptuously behind your back. And That's Terrible.
I feel you are trying to start a debate with me or someone else on this.

The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well. You weren't in a debate about how the kids these days don't know nuthin'? This thread started with that mindset.
Fight smart, not fair. It's not really a debate, it's more idle banter.
If this thread was some sorta debate it'd be in OTC or somethin'.
And if a thread is short, you should read before you post and consider tone up 'till that point before posting.

The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well.Nah, people start that kind of thread all over the place. I actually got a herald pm for commenting because it had been my first comment on this thread for a while. OTC is not a debate forum, it's for things that are on topic. Debates just benefit strongly from such things.
As for the history thing, the history of a subject is always trivia, not everyone has an interest in the trivia of something they enjoy.
Fight smart, not fair. What you're trying to do thar. I see it.
And your enjoyment of music benefits from having background knowledge.
The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well.I never said that they did.

The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well.Isn't that exactly what you insinuated here?

Fight smart, not fair.Nope. I said that they would enjoy the music more if they learned more about it. I didn't say they had to, or even had to be interested in doing so.
That's one of the nice things about music, it speaks to you.

The 5 geek social fallacies. Know them well.
Well, a grasp on music history is essential for properly understanding popular music.
Not saying you need exhaustive knowledge of arcane bands with small cult followings, but you should be able to, say, know artists key in the development of major genres.
Not saying you have to like it either, but it's not painfully hard to learn. And you might stumble upon stuff you've never heard before!!!
