Pull it from Unwinnable. It's not an illustration of the trope.
It's an example of Unwinnable by Mistake, isn't it? Albeit a really minor example.
I guess I agree with pulling it from Unwinnable, though, since it's a better illustration for Didn't Think This Through.
If you can beat a game, it's not Unwinnable. Unwinnable means you can never beat the game, period.
Losing a life =/= Unwinnable
So it's unwinnable if he doesn't have any extra lives.
No it's not. Unwinnable means the game is glitched or messed with so that it's impossible to progress on that save file (such as losing a plot-important item). You would have to completely start that save file over if you wanted to progress. Losing all your lives in Mario just brings up the Continue/Quit screen.
Was there an option to continue in the first Super Mario? Didn't you have to start over when you ran out of lives?
You started over from the world you left off on
Only if you held the select button down.
Whatever. Point still stands that the image should be removed from the Unwinnable page, as it does not represent the trope.

You can't say "Whatever" and then say in your next sentence "But I'm still right."
But, yeah, I said I agreed with getting rid of the picture in the first place.
"Whatever", in this case, means that it's pointless for us to continue on this tangent, because it's completely unrelated to the issue at hand.

Lets all agree to just agree that the picture should be pulled. I'm not suggesting an alternative picture suggestion either.
Rhymes with "Protracted."
Wait, wasn't that originally chosen for Unwinnable by Design? I could have sworn we had an image picking thread where that picture was chosen, because I remember seeing it on the site before.
Ninja'd...I know there was an IP thread about that pic, but I can't remember what it was about.
EDIT: Here we go...it was on Unwinnable by Design but was pulled for not being a legitimate example.
I'd be fine with pulling the SMB 3 pic from Unwinnable in the meantime.

Yeah, pull it from Unwinnable. It's not really an example.
Reaction Image RepositoryI'm curious as to why the thread was started relating to this trope, when it's the other one that's suggested for pulling...
Not that I disagree.
The picture is excellent for Didn't Think This Through.

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.Since the thread's trended in the opposite direction, I flipped the title and article link.
Truth is, I wasn't sure if the article would work.
It is, however, an example of the broader Unwinnable supertrope, so we could use it here instead. And it's an awesome image.
Rhymes with "Protracted."I agree, lets use that.
That works for me.
So... are you guys still in agreement that it should be replaced with the XKCD picture? Because the Super Mario Bros. 3 one is still there.
I noticed that the over-trope page for Unwinnable has the same image as Didn't Think This Through. I don't think we need the picture on Unwinnable so I say we should pull that one.
