All that is not a necessary component of the trope. May result from it, not necessarily.

Which part isn't necessary? The fetish?

Because that isn't the point.

The point is the details of the relationship like that are part of how it is played. If the girl is emotional dependent to act as a fetish, that is this trope. If the girl is not emotionally dependent, just so ridiculously shy that it's funny...it's still this trope.

Not . . . exactly.

There has to be a power dynamic. Simply being shy doesn't make her this trope, unless the guy is overtly dominant by contrast. Otherwise, a shy asian girl who dates a shy white boy counts for this trope, and that's People Sit On Chairs territory.

Well, looks like the crowner isn't changing, so can we call this bad boy and move on to the next part?

I think yes (especially as I don't expect anything to change).

It's holler time then.

In the meantime (because I'm a little busy with other stuff right now), anyone mind compiling a list of other pages that need their definitions tweaked to be in line with these changes?

I wonder if I am allowed to say "Please let me rename this!"

This new name sends my body into a cringe.

Have you a better idea? I don't really like it either.

I won't argue that there isn't a better name out there. (I do think it's the best of what we've got so far, but YMMV as always.)

However, at this stage, I'd think we'd have to start the crowner from scratch if we wanted to introduce more names. So the question being if it's worth it to go through the whole process again?

[up]I agree about "Docile...". The "Asian Woman" one is just too chairsy to work.

Lovely Orientalism...really?

I know some people don't like my suggestion, but can we at least have a name that doesn't fail Guess That Trope Definition completely?

Yes, if the name doesn't make you cringe, it's not doing its job! :)

I thought its "job" was to describe a trope accurately, not make people feel uncomfortable just saying it.

The trope has to make people cringe since it's about racist and ethnic stereotypes. That is why the cringeworthy name is better.

To the point of sacrificing clarity, though?

I mean, "Lovely Orientalism". That's worse than the name it has now.

I'm fairly certain that any trope name over the top enough to make me cringe would not pass muster on this wiki. tongue

Let's focus on concepts that are less relative based on the reader, shall we?

I have to agree that putting "cringeworthiness" on a higher level of importance than "clarity" is a fairly absurd idea.

Lovely Orientalism in any case has a "nay" from me.

It makes me cringe not because it's politically incorrect, but it's awkward-as-hell sounding. Seriously, this really doesn't need an anti-PC name, especially if we can't figure out how to make it sound un-awkward and un-tryhard.

There's two in the crowner, but they're losing.

Ugh...how much longer is this going to go on, do you think? Do you have an estimate? tongue

Seriously, it's really frustrating how people won't let this one finish. At this rate, the mods will have to basically fiat the thing, and I'd rather not have that.
