Kaz said that if he took another month to release a chapter, he would publish his Aladin fanfiction that he wrote when he was, like, 6.

._. My mind got blown because I just learned that this comic is an actual thing.

Mainly because this(Or rather main character of it) got mentioned by one friend of mine but she never bothered to explain what it exactly was so I kind of assumed she was talking about another of her roleplaying characters This pretty much explains why she got interested in mspa style stuff even though she doesn't read PS or Homestuck.

Anyhoo, read it through and holy crap this is awesome .-. Apparently very slowly updating awesome, but still. Archive reading this is very very awesome.

Anyhoo, YMMV page for this comic is rather... Interesting. Its probably from perspective of people who have to have suffer through slow updates, but I honestly don't see much reset button use nor sadistic'ness from writer You don't solve your problem just by "getting determined".

Eh, those complaints mostly come from back in the early days of the comic, before Katia went to the dinner party with the Countess. You can see if you read the comments on the individual pages, there were some people who were really upset that Katia was having a hard time, which is dumb since y'know conflict is kind of what makes a plot engaging.

The detractors mostly calmed down once good things started happening alongside all the bad. It's odd though, in the past few years it seems like a major trend for people to get upset when bad things happen to their favorite characters, as if they don't understand that that's how stories get written.

Oh okay, explains stuff .-. Still tv tropes page is full of stuff that makes the comic seem more sadistic than what it actually is. Heck, her getting her stuff stolen by Sigird isn't that bad since 1) Its not like the Orc where she doesn't have any idea where he is so she can still get her stuff back 2) she didn't rely on bottle after all.

You have a point about modern fans. Reminds me of the reaction to the most recent Dumbing of Age and Willis' great reaction to the reaction.

But a story where nothing but bad things happens to the main character is just kind of a sadist show. Or Candide.

Yeah she went from having practically nothing to nothing at all, quickly upgraded to having a full suit of snazzy armor. The only real set-back was losing the letter she needed to deliver.

Now that I've read the actual update A) Sworddog is the best and B) that trapdoor wasn't there when Katia explored the guild. Maybe someone put a rug over it.

I was thinking mostly of the Homestuck fandom. Seems like there are a bizarre number of people who want it to just be a sit-com where all the trolls sit around and have shenanigans while the plot never moves and everyone kisses everybody! It blows my mind that some people seem to actively be opposed to plot happening.

But then, Vriska would never have died and that would be terrible. Also, the sitcom situation sounds a lot like how the trickster stuff turned out so that's kind of funny.

^^^This as of the now is far away from sadist show really :P It'd be a sadist show if for example 1) Sigird had stolen something that can't be replaced(she can just get new letter from bookstore guy assuming she can't get package back, she just needs to get money again) and then Kvatch would have gotten destroyed/she would have left far away/if she had destroyed her important stuff 2) If everyone who was nice to her would stop being nice and get mad at her even the mr. just a soldier of imperial legion 3) They would play up her hopes only to crush them all without giving her real chance of coming back. Like sure not taking alcohol did result in freak out with fire magic, but that isn't that big thing besides being embarrassing. Also nothing happened at Countess dinner thingy. Aka it isn't case of "nothing but bad things happening" since while bad things keep happening, they don't really negate the good things that happened.

Really, while the comic can really go to sadist show direction, way its built up so far doesn't feel like sadist show.

Of course, trope page refers to Yanking the dog's leash thing, but like I said, it isn't built up that that is the whole point of the comic since things to seem to be slowly improving. Though i wouldn't wonder if there was yet another all hope is lost moment leading her after learning little about magic and fighter style to learn stuff about rogue style and thieves' guild :P

To me it feels like the comic is very, very slowly leading up to Katia actually succeeding at her goals and fixing her problems. It's just taking a long time, cause that's both realistic and far more interesting than if she simply changed overnight.

Yeah I kind of got the feeling he was directly messing with those sorts of fans a little bit, giving them what they want. Especially since he basically made ALL OF THE SHIPS canon for a little while, only to show that obviously they would have to be out of their minds for that to be a viable option.

Also, two major bad things that happened to her were both logical conclusions storywise/"punishments" for mistakes.(even if first one ended with after daring escape her tripping, she wasn't supposed to go to the ruin in first place) First time it was her trying to fix things that got ruined bcause of bad luck involving orc highwayman and second time it was her ignoring obvious signs and going to suspicious place because of her own excitement about mage guild stuff.

Countess stuff on other hand didn't have any "logical" story reason why she should have failed. If she would have failed and embarrassed herself(which she almost did because of bad luck and... Actually, yeah it was almost bad luck but it would have been Quill's fault for having alcohol on the glass :P So it would have been completely out of her control and not even her fault) at countess' dinner then it would be more points for this being sadist show. She wouldn't have even went to the dinner if she had known about it before Quill left.

Aka shortly, two major bad things happening were her fault and with second one she didn't give up and drink alcohol like she did with second(and first minor mistake involving drawing a sign :P). Fire freak out just showed that shes kind of special considering that even the amulet can't stop her fires anymore followed by weirdest dream sequence yet so thats foreshadowing instead of major bad thing happening.

Really, thats another thing about sadist shows :P Usually they are completely out of control of sadist shows' targets hands' while Katia does have terrible luck she does actually have some degree of control. Heck, she was doing fine when she was doing what she was supposed to do and made sure that things would go well(like asking Asotil to help)

(Also, Sigrid was obviously evil from the start)

^Though really, if Katia is the Champion then she has to somehow at the end end up in prison. I could see ending for this comic(assuming it doesn't continue into Oblivion) where after things have gotten good something horrible happens, people lose faith in her and she ends up for some reason in prison, she ends up depressed before getting resolved again despite jackass dunmer in other cell and encounter non nightmare version of Uriel and unless she at that point has figured out nightmare thing already/gotten rid of the fear maybe finally get over it and comic ending in hopeful tone since it would imply that it continues with Oblivion's events.

Then again, blades had no any idea why the heck champion was in the supposedly empty jail so maybe it would just be hijinx :P

Sigrid taking everything was pretty much the most godsfuckingdamn vicious Player Punch I've seen.

Sigh, I figured the thread updating after all this time meant it had finally updated...

Actually, I just read the entire comic over the past two days, too.

It's kinda hard to believe that pretty much everything since the well incident took place over the course of a year. I mean, the dream sequence was definitely very trippy, which would explain a good chunk of time, I suppose... but it feels disproportionately shorter than everything leading up to it.
