Didn't say human understands beast, just beast understands human. "Human talks to beasts" misses a little. I can talk to my cat; the trope would only apply if my cat understands what I am saying. Maybe understanding would be conveyed by obeying a command or something?

Huh? I meant it looked like they subtitled the squirrel. Not the human since the squirrel in the one image looks like it's the one talking. The Squirrel Girl image has actually dialogue. I have no idea what fun with speech balloons would be. Did you actually read the trope linked?

Yes, I read it. And I thought you were referring to the variety where the subtitles are used misleadlingly, like in the Austin Powers example. Thing is, speech balloons can be used misleadingly too, such as being edited, so my idea was that the point was moot.
That said, I didn't know you were saying it looked like they subtitled the squirrel. Okay, that's different. Still though, with Kronk's mouth clearly open, I doubt it's likely to give that impression.

His mouth is open, but the squirrel in that image looks more like it's actually talking and has the whole talking with his hands thing going on. He just looks confused and sort of "Oookay..."
