Just though I'd post a main page for distant worlds. Great game, its a 4x game with two expansions. Probable the best 4x game in a long while definitely try it if you can. Also I created a basic trope page for it. Lots of fun, also pretty easy, by 4x game standards, to learn as everything in the game can be automated.

Hmm... Is this the trope page you are talking about?

Good job for the first description, and placing the page under the proper namespace. Though, I would prefer having a custom description of the game for the works page. I would add a few things to it. Mainly a few trope entries (at least 5 or 6) and an index for it to go under. The former is avoid the page becoming a stub, and the latter is so someone can find it.

Spruced up the page a bit. Remember to add some tropes, and place it under the proper index. Start looking here to find the best index/genre to place it in.

I'll try to add some more to it, but I thought I already placed it under an index. I see it in 4x games where i added it before. That being said that section is a mess.

Edit - Seems 4x isnt an index at all for some reason, just put it in RTS and Science Fiction games instead. Also has a bunch of tropes now too.

Got this on sale on GOG. It's... interesting. Having played a lot of Stellaris, that game comes off as a stripped down version of this one - this game having significantly more interesting and fun ideas, but on the other hand having a more cumbersome execution that cancels that extra fun.

This game struck me like an Apple product: so intent on user friendliness and automation that it's actually difficult to figure out and troubleshoot why things are going wrong when they do, which isn't helped by the in-game info: the UI and in-game encyclopdia may give loads of information, but there were several key points where I just ended up with tons of information I didn't need and none of the information I did (the game runs heavily on loads of intricate information but only gives you the cliff notes: I remember having the same issue with Victoria, which was fixed significantly in games like Crusaders Kings and EU 4), often requiring me to find roundabout ways to get that information in-game instead.

Ultimately, I haven't ever had to stay glued to an FAQ so much when playing a 4X.

GalCiv is still better than most when trying to do this exact thing, even if even that game doesn't sell itself as being as free and versatile as this one.

My first game after a strong start and a few techs under my belt, I ended up in a loop where all the surrounding systems were too far away to explore (or if they were, were infested with hostiles but were too far for my fleets to get to), none of the systems nearby were colonizable, I was years to my next warp technology (which could have fixed it) and my private sector tanked because I was incapable of expanding, eventually resulting in my people revolting and my game just ending. Which felt like a good example of why, even if the freebies and gimmes in modern 4X's feel rather limiting in letting the player grow on their own, those kinds of things exist. There's a difference between a hard start and an impossible one.
