[up]You have a source for that?

Cus if it's true that would be interesting....

It would certainly make LP's interesting (export your created character into someone else's lp)

EDIT: Found one:http://www.pcgamer.com/it-may-be-possible-to-export-and-share-xcom-2-soldiers/

It's not Officially confirmed...but that picture all but does it.....unless it's taken out before release.

Unless otherwise stated, I get most of my info from the nice folks over at PC Gamer.

Import/Export here means purely about the visual customization and such right?

Give me cute or give me...something?

i'm guessing but it would be stupid if the base stats got reshuffled when you import characters (you could save scum the system to get godlike stats).

So i'm hoping at least Base stats are transferred and they are reset to rookie. or at least have an upper limit.....like you can only import characters of the highest rank you have attained (eg can't import corporals if your highest ranked soldier is a major)

Do you mean Colonel?

Also, I could see being able to export characters even being useful for someone who doesn't care to share. Assuming that it creates an appearance template, that means someone could use it to instantly get the correct appearance back to let a new rookie replace a customized rookie that just died. Or to have a consistent character in every one of the player's campaigns.

[up]Yeah..... Armed forces ranks are a big jumble in my head.

i expect celebrity look-a-like exports too (hell i'm planning to theme my XCOM 2 campaign around the WWE) Though John Cena would go great with mimetic skin...

So, as Long War MECs go, I understand that they lose a rank upon entering the new class. Do they start over as the new class as a "specialist" or do they have fewer MEC-class ranks available to earn? Trying to prepare in advance for when I get them and not have to recruit more people or find out my intended MECs are ruined.

IIRC, ME Cs rank up as normal. They cannot be psioni, gene-modded, or become officers, but they have all the normal ranks available (with their own skill trees).

I haven't used them much; I prefer gene-mods.

The good news of last evening was learning that cover affects thin man explosions. I was persuaded I had made a stupid move that would cost me my (already wounded) Assault, but the low cover blocked the gas.

[down]Ah, maybe THAT's what actually happened then.

In EW, Thin Man explosions are also determined by where the body rag dolls. This can make things a bit unpredictable, but if a soldier blasts a Thin Man at point-blank range, it may launch the body away, which can then make it so the poison doesn't hit said soldier.

Ok somethings been nagging at the back of my head.....Who was it that said that the volunteer just disappeared. was it a developer or was it just fan speculation?

Cus if that's true i'm wondering if we have some time travel shenanigans involved.

EDIT Found it. Jake Solomon said it:http://au.ign.com/articles/2014/11/20/xcom-designer-says-that-member-of-your-party-is-alive

Eh the article's from last year so it could apply but it's unlikey

You can actually see that they disappear in flash of purple stuff before the blackhole opens in the ending <_< Its bit of blink and miss it type of thing

It's also not exactly obvious even from that...I assumed that was the Volunteer going "OK it's far enough, I'll blow this thing up now." or something.

Long war MEC start at one rank below what they were as the MEC class that is related to their original class, but with no abilities selected yet not even the specialist one. Even tough there is only one specialist ability per mec class. So, you can't "ruin" a mech trooper by doing it at the wrong rank. In fact, given the rather extreme cost of mec suits, it is usually best to convert someone high ranking. standard practice is to do this to someone looking at a very lengthy hospital stay, because the process gets them back in the fight in ten days regardless of how badly injured they were, or troopers with builds that it turns out you really just cant stand, or use anymore at that point in the game. It also resets base stats, so trying to optimize those doesn't work, but that does mean that for example, a soldier who has had their will score destroyed by multiple critical wounds will get their mind restored by the borging process..

Pathfinders are generally considered the best MEC. They do the exact same job as a run'n gun scout, only better. More damage. *lots* more damage, more hp, more hustle, and no range penalties for being in someone's face. (I love the marksman rifle series, but they are just not as good as a MEC main gun.)

Except they have diffrent growths then the base class, so when you want to promote them does varry.

For example snipers it it may be better to do so at a high rank for the absurd aim, at a low rank for more HP.

and then some classes are best promoted at rank 4 for max stats.

Check the wiki if you really want to powergame.

Well, that sucks, but after some of the game breaking bugs that showed up in EU and took forever to patch out (and even then, the teleport bug isn't completely gone, just very rare now), I'd rather they have a bit of extra time to make sure XCOM2 is as solid as they promise.

IMCA, that's not how long war mec's work, or at least, not the up to date version of the long war beta. When you cyborg a trooper, you *loose all their stats*, they get a fresh set of base line stats, and then go through the progression appropriate to that class up to the rank they have. So there is no reason to chop at any particular time, except that high ranking soldiers obviously make better use of the expensive toy. Altough, really, nothing really stops you from going "Commanders choice-> Scout->PATHFINDER SPAM asap." Pathfinders are quite strong even in tier one suits and as their opening talent is run and gun, which is the key to the way to use them..

Huh. I just discovered when you change the game's language, it will only accept to load games that were started in the same language, for some reason.

Edit: Well, I lost by bad sniper. I red-shirted him towards a meld canister, but a pod appeared just on the side where he wasn't covered. Not that I'll miss the guy, but they could at least have waited until he got the meld. I don't think I'll bother reloading just for him. I'll reload if I lose someone important.

Edit2: My first Terror, operation Secret King, went as a scalpel, so no, I'm not reloading. I'm still starved for Support guys, though.

To be precise, the game saves your current will, then rolls an entirely new set of stats. If your pre-conversion will is higher, you get a fifth of the difference as a bonus. (so.. a couple of points. It's pretty meaningless) then every time you select a talent going down the tree to your current rank, your stats increase as appropriate for that class. You can see it happen.

I'm totally fine with the delay - at the very least, we've all seen the silly animation bugs while stuff shoots at each other. The possibilities for such things probably only got much worse with heightened soldier customization.

Also 'cause I got Long War in the meantime wink

#4998: Aug 28th 2015 at 1:25:34 PM

I just dont like how A) The delay was so close to release.

and B) How release date means nothing any more, nearly every game gets delayed once or twice, or even three times now a days.

You should not even bother anouncing a date until your sure, just say you are working on it.

I've seen enough Obvious Betas to have me prefer it this way.

Imca (Veteran)
#5000: Aug 28th 2015 at 1:37:32 PM

Or you know, they could just not jump the gun until there sure.

This is not "You should stick to the date even if it is an obvious beta" and more "You should not anounce a date until your sure you can reach that one and it not be a beta"
