Well the name itself is taken from Math Eigenvalue
Really the full name should be Eigenvalue Plot.
this irregular webcomic explains the trope well. (Below the actual comic.)

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Eigenvalues aren't exactly a well-known mathematical concept.
Belief or disbelief rests with you.Yeah, the eigen value isn't something most people will run into because of the level of math required to understand what's going on.
Fight smart, not fair.It could do with redirects if nothing else.
SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)I had thought it was named after a guy who had codified the plot. But then I read Irregular Webcomic :)

Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Even at the level of math required eigenvectors and values can be kind of hard to grasp.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Maybe the name should be something like Every Character Gets To Shine or Every Skill Gets A Spotlight

SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)I thought it was an anime term since I assume by default that any non-English, stupid-sounding name is from the anime crowd. Hey, at least I admit my prejudice. It sucks either way. I'd support a rename.
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler.Redirects sound good to me.
I don't favor a rename... but then I do work with Math and Stats all the time.
Completely fails the Guess That Trope test in my opinion, I think a rename is needed.
There are no heroes left in Man.It doesn't need a rename IMHO, although the suggested correction of Eigenvalue Plot (or would it be Eigenvalues Plot) would be very welcome, as it seems to add clarity without losing conciseness. So long as such a simple suggestion doesn't lead to a full rename procedure where we can lose this good reference...
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google? The biggest problem with the reference is that it isn't gathering either wiks or inbounds. It's actually down a wik from when I added it to my To Do list two months ago and the inbounds are the same. The current name is stagnating. Keeping references is nice but not at the expense of trope health.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI can just imagine two math undergrads watching a show and coming up with this one. "They tailored the plot just-so for the superhero team to solve it... It's like they computed the team's eigen-plot!".
In all seriousness, as much as I am filled with glee at my choice field having that kind of validation, this is woefully insular. On the "WTF is this" English-speaking population scale, "Eigenvalue" is comparable to "Nakama", and as much as I am in favor of TV Tropes educating readers, I am not so sure this conviction ought to apply to Linear Algebra 1.
Pretentious quote || In-joke from fandom you've never heard of || Shameless self-promotion || Something weird you'll habituate toThank you. I'm with you on educating tropers, but it's one thing to ask editors to take a quick look at an iconic work of fiction on Wikipedia or even this site if there's an article on it, it's entirely another to expect everybody to learn a whole new branch of mathematics. I myself never got past Introductory Algebra, which may be one reason I graduated with an English degree and went straight into the infantry.
Anyway, we definitely need to rename this.
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler.I disagree on asking people to look at iconic works even more than I do for mathematics (which are at least consistent), but that doesn't stop this from being a terrible name.
Fight smart, not fair. All right. As I'm not the only one who thinks it's a terrible name and it is stagnating, there is now a crowner.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. Dick(for the record, I didn't learn about these in math, I learned about them in an engineering course)
Fight smart, not fair.As much as I like a cool word that sums up a concept, you're not going to find a good definition of 'Eigen' as it applies here written anywhere in some easy to understand manner. It really needs a new name, it's basically gibberish as is.

SPATULA, Supporters of Page Altering To Urgently Lead to Amelioration (supports not going through TRS for tweaks and minor improvements.)I like the sound of Every Character Gets To Shine.
Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter!I will admit, it is a very cool name from a theoretical standpoint and I love the elegance of summing it all up in two words. It's just not a working name. This trope deserves a working name.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickEvery Character Gets To Shine or maybe tacking a Plot on the end would be good enough.
Fight smart, not fair. That sounds like a trope naming policy.

Crown Description:
This trope has one of the least descriptive names on the site. It's been stagnating on wiks and inbounds and according to my notes hasn't picked up either since I put it on my To Do list. It needs at least some redirects and likely a rename to make it live again.
