The thing is that caption was chosen when the picture was chosen, as the picture text leads into that line.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. What do you mean, "leads into" it? The pic is not from Galaxy Quest (or if it is, was not potholed to it) and all that they happen to have in common is using the "never give up" wording. (Which happens to be used a fair bit.) My caption shares in common with the pic that each involve perseverance not to be someone's meal, but again, I already said in the OP that this is in hindsight not a very significant improvement and that I feel this doesn't really need a caption.
"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartIt was given support as the caption on the image picking thread that got the picture, partly because it helped the picture (he's following both lines), and partly due to Rule of Funny.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. My lot is cast towards the Galaxy Quest reference.
I suppose it would be too much to ask for a "...Never mind." at the end of the current caption?
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.I like Nemo caption much better. The Galaxy Quest quote just sounds redundant.

"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartBy "following both lines" he means that "Never give up; never surrender!" is Tim Allen's character's Catchphrase in Galaxy Quest.
But seriously, dude, are you really gonna nitpick to that extent in order to give your argument more traction? Saying "The comment doesn't say anything about keeping the caption" isn't gonna win anyone to your side, and neither is simply picking apart every argument made against you. Instead. giving us a reason beyond "I don't like it" as a reason for changing the caption will win you supporters.

Yeah that's a bad caption. I say there's no harm in axing it. It doesn't help with anything.

The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.Thinking about it, I can see your point. I admit to having something of a soft spot for Galaxy Quest, but the Finding Nemo caption does make sense in the context of the picture. I do have a preference for lesser-known works as captions or pictures just so people will be encouraged to look into those works, but in this case, it's not proper to put that first. I'll support the Finding Nemo caption.
The Finding Nemo quote, by the way, is "I didn't come this far to be BREAKFAST!"
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I agree that the Galaxy Quest caption just seems redundant, and support either the Nemo quote or no caption at all.
Even though I'm the one who used the Finding Nemo quote, as I have said already since it is not a particularly significant improvement and in hindsight I would rather this not have a caption in the first place.

"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartI liked the old caption, but the Nemo one works better for the pic's context.
One more vote for Nemo caption.
So, crowner?

I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Bump for votes...as of right now:
- "I didn't come this far to be breakfast!" - 3 (yeas:6 nays:3) 2.00 : 1
- No caption. - 2 (yeas:5 nays:3) 1.67 : 1
One more bump..."no caption" is the only one in the green right now.
And it's ahead of the next option by 8 points.
Yeah, I think we may as well call this.
"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartYep, time to call it. Locking up.
The caption, or the thread? If the latter, the lock doesn't seem to have been done.

And if so, what should the caption be?
You can find the history of the current caption by doing ctrl+f of "never surrender" in the edit history.
It might seem like I was edit-warring, but when I first changed the caption, it was because it seemed awfully random to use a quote, from another work, that has nothing to do with the pic; at least the wording from the Finding Nemo quote was more fitting to what was going on in the pic. The reason I changed it a second time was because marheavenangel89 reverted the first change without really addressing my edit reason. After Dragon Quest Z reverted it again, but at least with a more specific reason, I figured I'd take it to the forums.
I don't think it's so much that I'm "ignoring" how it goes with the caption text as figuring it is just not particularly fitting. There is no apparent reason to associate the phrase in the pic with a separate quote from a separate work. There is marginally more reason to associate it with a quote from a very similar situation from another work, a quote which almost seems like it could be about the pic itself, but in hindsight that isn't much better. And I am not sure what in particular I am "assuming" about the pic.
Quite frankly, I'd be content to leave this captionless, as the pic does more than enough on its on. Whatever we go with, though, I think a code-comment telling users who want the caption changed to take it to the forums might be an idea.
