@Karkadinn, I'm tempted to quote that.

And lol, Wall Street Journal. Their editorial board is insane. Other than that, they're fine.

I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple years, we start seeing WSJ articles on how the middle class is an antiquated notion — a parasite on society.

The baseline assumption that I've always worked under is that we do something because it is good for other living things
Oh it is; at least for the economically advantaged. I guess their idea is that the kinds of things most people consider fair to lower/middle classes they would consider "unfair" to the upper class.

And I would be totally and utterly unsurprised. And terrified, because, you know, Marx.

What about Marx?

@Barkey

I honestly had no idea.

@Breadloaf

That statement translated into, "Canadian workers don't have it as shitty as American workers yet, but they should!"

Because we'd be sliding towards Marx's predictions, except, you know, there's no happy peaceful transition at the end to hope for.

Just a long river of blood and despair.

Don't drag Marxist horseshit into this.

I see.

Since I'm good at derails about this sort of thing, I won't discuss the qualities/failures of Marx's work here, but Flyboy wasn't exactly complementing Marx, in case you missed it.

But I am magnanimous in defeat, and instead of blaming you I'll blame Flyboy.

Well sorry to revive the topic but here's an update:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/story/2012/02/03/electro-motive-plant-london-close.html

The plant will be closed down as the company cited "costs" as the main reason.

They were never planning to stay in the first place.

Someone convince the workers at the U.S. plant to strike for a pay equivalent to $35 Canadian an hour.

There was a Daily Show interview that was all about this sort of thing, only at a state-versus-state level. Race to the Bottom - a frantic dash to see who can ditch their standards the fastest to exploit people on the lowest rungs of society for maximum profit returns and minimal oversight. It's a very accurate description for how the global economy seems to be working right now.

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.

and it works, because half the electorate is utterly convinced that factories flee the 1st world for the third world due to Unions demanding too much pay and benefits, and that Right To Work laws will fix everything.

It works because people only look at wages and nothing else.

Nobody cares about the fact those Canadian workers earning 35/hour are way more productive per manhour, which more than makes up for the wages.

Plus, the rail industry - the people who BUY THE COMPANY'S FREAKING PRODUCT - require consumers who drive the demand to send stuff around the country by rail. That's almost half a thousand fewer consumers in Ontario who can do that now.

I feel sorry for the workers. Finding blue-collar work in the west is steadily becoming impossible.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?
