Gary let out a sigh of relief. "That's good to hear."
John had finally brought himself his ice cream. He was tempted to get double chocolate but was too scared of what effects it would have on him, so he got double vanilla. Walking towards Penny and Gary, John asked "So, have you two finished talking?"

"Uh huh. Oh! Forgot to order mine! Be right back!" Penny dashed into the queue.
With Penny getting in line, John asked his father "Um, okay, what were you talking about?"
Gary responded "Well Penny said you actually have a lot of potential and she'd like to train with you and help other lightlives so you can utilize it. She was impressed that you could use telepathy when you're human."
"Oh really, well I can't figure out how to do that now..."
"I'm sure you'll figure out how to do that again eventually." It became silent for a short bit of time before Gary gave a more serious look and asked "John, after what happened today I have to ask, are you okay with going to a therapist?"
"Why would I need a therapist!?"
"It's not that I think you're insane, it's just today I noticed that there may be things you want to talk about to someone who's job is to listen to your problems. You don't have to see one if you don't want to."
"Fine, I guess I could see one..."

"Back again!" Penny zipped back, almost dropping her strawberry whirl. "Okay, John, here's the thing. This session has gone on for a little longer than I meant for it too. But it's really great working with you, and you've got a lot of talent. So, do you want a little bit more teaching today, or save it for tomorrow?"

"Okey dokey! Let's get somewhere quiet so I can teach you one more lesson! You can finish your ice cream on the way over." She went on ahead, happily licking up her ice cream.
John had forgot to pay attention to his ice cream, it already melted a bit. The boy tried to eat it quickly as he followed Penny but that got him a brain freeze, so he slowed down.
Gary wasn't planning on getting any ice cream, it would just be more calories. He just followed the two at his own pace.

The three eventually reached a quiet wooded area of the park. Penny, having demonstrated the appetite of a dog, finished off her ice cream.
"All right John. Shapeshift on back, and tell me one thing you wanna learn."
John finishing of his ice cream transformed back into a puppy.
"Penny, you said that I could learn how to use projectiles in the fight so, can you teach me how to use them! It's just, I was useless the whole fight and I want to be able to do something other than run and hide when that happens!"
Gary was going to object at first, but Penny assured him that his son wasn't going to get into battle.

"Oookay. But please don't take it as an invite to start leaping into fights bolts blazing. Some of the bad guys could have projectiles too."
She focused on the area behind her, and three target disks were called into existence.
Looking at the disks Penny summoned to existance, John immediately said "Awesome!"

"All right. We'll start off basic today, with some energy weaponising. We could go with sound vibrations or light throwing, it's up to you. Personally, I think it'd be awesome if you had like a sonic howl or something."
"You think sonic howling is the most awesome? I guess I'll go for that than."

"Great! Now, what you've got to do is shout a short sound, and do it really impressive. Neck straight, projection, from the diaphragm and all that. But imagine that when you make that sound, you're launching a burst of sonic energy and kinetic force. Could be a ball, could be a gust, but make sure your throat's clear and you're not in the way of your mouth, or you'll hurt yourself. Now, aim for one of the targets."

John didn't reply to his father. He turned to a tree, breathed in and kept his neck straight before he breathed out. A super sonic wave exited his mouth and when reaching the tree, knocked off some bark and a few loose branches.
After his show of magic, John said "I'm sick of being scared. I was scared in the fight and at that temple, but I'm not going to be scared now..."

Penny was silent a moment. "Gotta hand it to him; he can be assertive when he wants to."
She went over to John, and knelt beside him. "All right, listen John. If you get in a fight, and if you get seriously torn up, then it'll be on my head AND my conscience. I want you to promise, like really promise, that you'll only use your powers as recreation, and a last resort if I can't be there to protect you. Deal?"
"I can't promise that" responded John, "I can't use my powers just for recreation. There has to be something useful for me to do with them! Dad said you were willing to have me work with other lightlives, I want to help you guys out!"

Penny glanced back at Gary, and sighed. "There are more ways to help people than blasting things to bits. But, if you can't promise me you won't use your new power rarely, the least I can do is help your aim. Otherwise, you could do massive collateral damage, and that wouldn't be helpful at all, would it?"
