This trope was named "The Sword In The Stone" before, and people just thought it was the sword of Arthurian legend. The picture didn't help. We need one that shows the worthiness requirement(s).

I have my DVD set of Magic Knight Rayearth, that might show this in a few frames. I'll go see what's there. Anyone else have their own suggestions?

That image was (only somewhat, given trope meaning) appropriate for the first name. Not at all now.

Pull.

Okay, pulled it. Now we can work on replacements.

We could go with a close-up of Mjolnir from Marvel.

That's not really this trope. It just states one will be granted power by it, not that anyone not chosen cannot use it at all.

Well, you can't actually wield it at all if you're not worthy, but I guess Odin left that in the fine print.

Well if there is a trope for an item that grants power (and a bit more general than something like Transformation Trinket), I would wholeheartedly support it for something like that.

I like the edited image provided before, but surely someone can re-add the text so it's not so .. ameteurish-looking.

Mocked this up from the current Skin Horse storyline.

I don't really understand that one, sorry. It seems like the SECOND person could be chosen, and is making the blade do something special, aka light up, even though that's not true. The issue is he doesn't look hurt. I've got another example I could dig up...

even though it was renamed, I think Sword in the Stone would work here. A few images of various people being unable to pull it out, then the last one is Arthur actually holding it.

[up][up] Took me a long time to parse that. It would be improved by a small space (vertical white line) between the columns.
