A thread to discuss the Trails Series of video games (known in Japan as the Kiseki series). Adaptations of the games are also on-topic.
As of May 2024, there is no specific spoiler policy for this thread, which means the the default forum spoiler policy applies. In summary:
- Spoilers for non-episodic works should remain tagged for a minimum of one month after the work's release.
- Spoilers for episodic works (including any DLC) should remain tagged for one month or until the next instalment releases, whichever is shorter.
There hasn't been much good news in months for people who want more Legend Of Heroes VI in English. Xseed has apparently been translating the second installment for PSP, but no release date yet, and they apparently have not had much sales success. Meanwhile, there have been no official statements about releasing the Windows versions in English.
But thanks to this Andriasang article, I learned that Aeria Games (best known for MMORPGs) plans to release the Trails in the Sky trilogy internationally on smartphones. Some online and social functions will be added to the basic gameplay. No clear indication of what international smartphone platforms just yet.

I keep trying to like Evol song mixes and failing. There's like, one song (the Ruan theme) that I actually like.
Also haha oh wow Joshua, that's not the voice actor I expected for him.
I mean it's rather common to have a girl voice those types of leads and all those cross dressing incidents...
Estelle's voice is perfect though, she also plays Asuna in Negima among other kinda Tsun tomboys.
Takehito Koyasu for Olivier is damn perfect too that guy can play everything and you would need it for the various personalities of Olivier.

I can't get used to the portraits. There's nothing really wrong with them so much as the originals are objectively perfect.◊
This song needs more love. They are not too bad at least till their attempts to age them up a little for Azure/Zero now those train wreck Estelle and Joshua.
The cleaning up of the stills in TC were the only art improvements IMO. At least the art for Cold Steel III isn't going that far Puni Plush.
I still want the voices with the pc version...

Where's that screenshot of Estelle come from? If it's not something I've not seen as of SC chapter 2.
There's so much text and portraits in FC alone I've had a hard time finding any good stand-alone screenshots of Estelle's most Estelle moments to show any friends who've not played the game.
And agreed, her Evo actress is perfect. Yeah, Joshua is...not great.
Its from late in SC from a really awesome and extensive side quest, which is easily missable sadly. That line is one of the bigger memes and easily found on the net.
my personal fav Estelle face although her embarrassed panic face is pretty good too.
Out of all the characters I think Erika has the best faces, cropped out the text so no spoilers, she is probably the most expressive out of anyone and I think she has more actual faces than Estelle does and she isnt even a major character.

Jeez, Falcom, it's like they have no idea what restraint means. Looking back at the prologue, all of chibi Estelle's faces are unique and you only get to see them for about five minutes of dialogue.
Eh? They get a lot of use out of those via the flashbacks, I mean a lot. Those kid portraits probably get like 3+ hours worth of screen time over the course of 3 games.
Now Tita having a full set of portraits with her hat off is excessive considering she only does it like twice over the course of all 3 games and only for a couple lines. We only get to see like 3 or 4 of them but the full set exists.

Show your friends the prologue of FC, in particular "WHY IS MY PRESENT A BOY?!" and Estelle dropkicking Joshua. I loved that bit.
Funny how once Estelle grows up Joshua turns out to be the best present Cassius ever got her.
He was probably above her first bug catching net or fishing pole. Probably not as high up the list as her first pair of Stregas though.
So I was rereading the Carnelia book from FC and I never really got how important that book is to the world and how Carnelia and Toval fit till now. I do not even want to imagine the kind of work that it takes to keep it all in continuity.
I am assuming the Gambler Jack one from SC has the same effect on Azure/Zero? I mean we have seen Jack and co but that was just a random no story and non-canon? poker mini game.

Estelle never fights a secret society just for a chance at seeing a new pair of Stregas.
...but she totally would. If I ever write Trails fanfiction I'll probably start with that.
Trails fanfic? That'd be nice to give a try, the variety of character personalities makes for easy scenarios.
Yeah, the prologue is definitely an Establishing Character Moment for Estelle. That makes so much more sense since the end of FC.
And there is nothing in Zemuria stopping that girl from overturning every secret society, cult, military base, and or underground ruins to get her feet in a new pair of Stregas.
Several Stregas are found in ruins although the best pairs are always given as rank rewards, dangling those shoes in front of her to get her to do missions! The guild knows their agents.
I have several fan fic ideas but most would be spoilers sadly. Several of my old ideas appeared straight up as side stories in TC which was hilarious.
Haven't seen it brought up here, but a very rough fan translation of Zero has leaked. This is not the more polished one currently being worked on, and of course we don't know if XSEED has started on Zero themselves yet.
Given that I'm still on chapter 5 of The 3rd, and I'm so busy that I've fallen behind on games, I have no reason to touch the rough translation, but it's certainly there.
It's still better than nothing. I've still got the The Third and Cold Steel II to beat myself, but if I ever get done with them before another Trails comes out, well, it exists.
Thoughts on the Third so far? Fav doors?
This thread has been pretty quiet on it. :(

Honestly, I don't like any of the doors, because they're either shoehorned minigames or a 20-minute-to-an-hour cutscene with little interactivity. Good backstory and worldbuilding, which I'm cool with since I did sit through four games of this series already, but it's not a happy moment when I unlock a door, I just patiently sit through it.
Also, fuck the Fishing Baron. (No spoilers.)
IMO, the 3rd is by far the weakest of the five games I played, because they didn't put the worldbuilding together into a cohesive narrative.

I will agree it is the weakest, quite a bit of a lower budget on this one.
The main narrative is quite cohesive but yeah the doors are gaiden things, as they kinda wrote themselves into a hole with SC's ending.
However coming off Cold Steel damn near every door was mind blowing on the, from my perspective, Canon Welding that was done. So much now makes sense in the evolution to Cold Steel and what amounted to a genre change. Some of the moments in the doors were the funniest in the franchise.
Aside from the mini game doors and the door that got censored in the other versions they were all great. And umm there were doors with a lot of gameplay in them.
And yeah the fishing mini game is BS, the AI occasionally will catch ludicrous things to win by 1 point. It was very odd when it did it to me.

Didn't XSEED go out of their way to uncensor that one door? If it still is, that's a disappointment.
No it is uncensored, the PC version was the only one that was never censored. I should have phrased that differently.
I actually wish it had and I am normally the person who won't play a thing censored. That one was seriously disturbing.
That one I had to spoil myself on the conclusion to all that cause... damn. I am glad I did too.

I wish the fish were easier to make into a recipe, where you could just eat a fish and make food out of it. I can catch plenty of fish in SC, but I still have to wait for the time where I can find a recipe to use them. It's also easier to catch than in FC where it was a lot more specific on the conditions where here it's a simple timing prompt.
Still, there's something oddly cute about Estelle stopping everything she's doing and excitedly hoping to catch a fish.
There is a portion of the game where literally all of Liberl is open to you where you can go through and catch everything, make the recipes you need as well as open the bait shop in Grancel. Dont worry about missing anything till then.
Really you only need to make a thing once and that is it for cooking. Fishing being connected to cooking is only in SC, after that fish give stuff for cooking but they can also be bought in stores or monster drops.
And yes Estelle being a fishing freak is really cute. "Curse you, Holey Boots... This victory is yours."
Some of the fishing spots she tries to fish at are pretty questionable though... like fishing off the balcony of the queen's private room.

Or right next to a public bridge in Ruan, you gotta wonder why nobody's looking at her funny. Schera/Agate/any other party member isn't there, it's hard not to imagine Agate just walking away while she spends upwards of twenty minutes stalling a Bracer request to catch a fish, no wonder some chew you out for being late.
Also fuck that Sappherl Tower photo quest, I've got a save there just in case I could find it, but I keep getting lost and can't find the way to the roof.
You got Dorothy with you I hope. Don't do it without her, its damn funny and more BP.

I was hoping that the inverse would come out, people were trying to patch those voices into the english PC version.
