Argh. I think I'm getting old and jaded here.
I just saw one of the trailers and thought: meh, so there are ancient astronauts that started us, we get to that planet, we find the xenomorphs and activate them, and the rest of the movie is trying to keep them from getting to earth. So what? Been there, done that.
It's still Ridley Scott and it will be nice to watch, perhaps even awesome from a dramaturgical and technical perspective, but it's not a metaphysical event by far. Not comparable to the original Alien.
And I loathe loathe loathe that every movie has to have some super fancy special design for (e.g.) their space helmets. I think that this kind of stuff gets severely overdone in science fiction. Because mostly, the movies (at least the better ones) are not about technical gimmicks, so that stuff should be as inconspicuous as possible. It shouldn't scream "new and fancy" in your face.
New featurette debuted yesterday.
Very intriguing. the inclusion of Guy Pearce in there could add more weight to the theory that Peter Weyland is somehow on board Prometheus
Okay, having Fassbender talking about "a superior species" has got to be deliberate.
International trailer, just shown on British TV
At 1:26, I'm sure that's something Xenomorphy... But holy shit, this just makes me even more excited.
Wow. This looks awesome.
From that trailer, the biggest possible pitfall I can think of is going overboard with futuristic technology-porn.
Hah, so I'm not the only one.
Maybe its because I've watched too much Stargate, so the whole "ancient astronaut" angle isn't anything special?
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comIn that last trailer, what in the hell is going on at 2:32 to 2:33?

And let us pray that come it may (As come it will for a' that)Meh, technology porn and ancient astronauts is all fine and dandy to me. I don't really expect sci-fi writers to always come up with new ideas. I'll gladly go watch Prometheus.
The Great Northern Threadkill. It's all about the execution, although I do hope this will be more to it than this. It would be especially tragic if the twist of the movie had already been shown to us by the trailers, given the neutrality of expectation we'd be going in with concerning whether the Space Jockeys were actually aggressive or not.
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchAt the risk of getting curses rained down on my head, I will say that Fassbender is the only reason I'm interested in this. I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi, I have no tolerance for Body Horror and the only Ridley Scott-directed work I've seen is Apple's 1984 Super Bowl commercial.
This does, however, look quite good. And I'll be spending a lot of time in town the week after it comes out, so there's a high chance that Mom will want to see it with me.
EDIT: Wait, it's apparently rated R. I've been a little more gutsy in what I watch lately, so I still might give it a try.

Looking for some stories? You should watch Alien and Aliens. They're classics of sci-fi horror and sci-fi action (respectively) for a reason. The second movie is more forgiving on the horror angle, but the first is better in terms of atmosphere, mystery and all that good stuff. And while Alien has aged well as an overall film, the shocking nature of its horror elements has been softened by the thirty years since its release. Contemporary horror far outstrips it in terms of pure gore and general filth.
Which just goes to show that horror is a state of mind rather than a quantifiable measurement.
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchI really hope this will be set up as a horror movie. Can't wait for it :D
I think you should at least test if you can stand Aliens 2. Because while the Alien movies aren't as gory as many horror movies today they're guaranteed nightmare fuel. I'm never easily affected by horror but watch the first movie in the dark(or light) and it doesn't matter how often I've seen it - when it's finished I still have the impulse to check all ceiling corners and start glancing around.
British teenagers are just less easily scared than American ones?
Rather, the BBFC doesn't have a gigantic stick up its arse like the MPAA does.
With cannon shot and gun blast smash the alien. With laser beam and searing plasma scatter the alien to the stars.Every country has different priorities for their rating board.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comNew clip online (top one in the "View Trailers"-playlist), and unless you count "They land on a planet" as one it's completely spoiler-free.
It's funny, despite the visual upgrade that cockpit still gave me some serious Alien vibes.
I'm going to see this in Imax! Already booked the tickets. !!!
Protagonist feature and dodgy accents ahoy. Why on earth is she not a redhead here?

New spoileriffic TV spot
Wouldn't be an Alien movie without some form of bodily invasion, would it.
Uh.
Proto-facehuggers?
The Great Northern Threadkill.
Yeah, Fassbender absolutely nails the Uncanny Valley. His performance in that video was delightfully unsettling.
Fixed.
