It's not the pragmatism that's killing him.: Death By Pragmatism

As pictured here: Ok, so when the bus began teetering on the edge of the cliff he did the sensible thing and got off of it. That's not what's going to kill him though. No, this poor sap is going to die because after getting off the bus he ran afoul of Never Split the Party. His problem is not too much pragmatism, but not enough genre savvyness.

What we need is something showing a character dying while trying a sensible solution to the problem. Suggestions?
