Well, it's almost certainly some form of Final Fantasy battle music, what with that opening bassline.
I have a message from another time...Hm, my guess would be something from a fan-project
I'm leaning towards fan-project as well. There's something off with the sounds used here, especially the horns. My guess is someone sampled the sounds and the opening bassline (or just managed to pull off a similar sound on a synth, which isn't too hard if you know what you're doing), then added the strings and horns.
Join us in our quest to play all RPG video games! Moving on to disc 2 of Grandia!Hey I got that song on an RPG Maker 2000 add on. Or at least a remix of it. If it was a fan project I wouldn't say it's likely there would be a remix.
Or perhaps the one I got was the original version and this the remix.

Help?.. please...The Napster era went right by me because I only had internet access at the library and wasn't really into music then. It was installed on the library computers for a while though, and I listened to the Pokemon theme song on it.
Why do I remember that and not my homework or friends names
Dumbo
Because I still wanna know.
Background: This MP 3 originally circulated in the Napster era (2001-2002ish) labeled as the Final Fantasy X battle theme, which it obviously isn't. Some speculate it's scrapped music from an early FFX build, but nothing's been proven. Others note that all of the background sound effects are from FF8, potentially making the music even older.
As far as I know, no one in the Final Fantasy community has been able to definitively say what it is.
Not one of my videos, btw. This is just the first time I've been able to find a non-MIDI version of this song in a while.
Please note the piece's general awesomeness and how it uses Uematsu's FF1-6 and 9 battle motif.
