Dahmer is really a hit, huh.

[up]bSpeaking of, it seems Netflix has renewed the series for two more seasons. Though, much like Murphy's American Crime Story, it's naturally going to be rotating its central topic.

The Watcher, another Ryan Murphy show, has also been reviewed for Season Two.

Neither move is a surprise given the ratings success of both shows, particularly the outsized ratings of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which is on course to reach 1B hours viewed in the coming weeks.

Netflix didn’t disclose what the two additional installments of the Monster anthology franchise will cover but said that they will “tell the stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society”.

The success of both shows has silenced those that believed Murphy failed to deliver hits for the streamer after signing a $300M deal in 2018. Murphy’s deal is up in the coming months and there’ll be intense scrutiny as to whether he extends his pact with Netflix, moves to a rival, or teams back up with his close friend Dana Walden, who is now Chairman of Disney General Entertainment Content.

We're finally getting a Remo Williams series:

Hopefully it'll keep the same level of humor from the books. Wonder who gets to play Remo and Chiun (hopefully an actual Korean in the latter case).

Deadline recently published an article talking about the recent surge of media companies writing off their shows for taxes, or rescinding their renewals mid-production.

Television increasingly has been taking advantage of tax rules to save money by scrapping shows that already have been completed.

Pioneered by Warner Bros. Discovery, which scrapped series such as the second season of Chad and reality competition The Big D, and followed by AMC Networks, which has axed shows such as Demascus, Invitation to a Bonfire and the second seasons of 61st Street and Pantheon, which largely were completed.

Others such as Netflix, with the second season of animated series Inside Job, also have been reversing renewal decisions, which is a separate but nonetheless similarly dispiriting trend for creatives.

In a lengthy social media post, Roswell, New Mexico creator Carina Adly Mac Kenzie addressed why such moves are hurting television writers.

She called it a “direct betrayal of promises made.”

“This ‘trend’ of killing completed projects for corporate tax breaks isn’t just sad, it’s a direct betrayal of promises made when deals are signed,” she wrote on Twitter. “We’re going to have to start to need language in our contracts, or penalties maybe, to shift this — but that will be very hard.”

Mac Kenzie, who has written for series The Originals and The Flash, highlighted that such moves have happened for decades but that it was very rare and linear networks used to burn episodes off over weekends.

Speaking of, the Workaholics film for Paramount+ has been suddenly scrapped weeks before production started.

[up] Yeah, this would ideally be a thread for general discussion on live television related news or projects that don't have their own specialized thread.

Been watching some Hill Street Blues. Not sure how many are familiar with that here, but I’m liking the more casual tone.

According to Variety, a new survey is finding that the viewing habits of the desired 18-49 age group are negatively affected by frequent show cancellations.

`A quarter of U.S. adults wait for streaming originals’ finale before starting, citing fears over the show’s potential cancellation with an unresolved ending (27%) or because they do not want to wait for the next season after a cliffhanger (24%). Nearly half (48%) of the participants who said they prefer to wait until the series ends before starting it cited a preference for binge-watching shows.

Moreover, the survey showed that nearly half of Americans (46%) sometimes or always wait for the series finale before they even begin watching the show. The 18-to-34-year-old age group was the most likely to agree with that statement, with 25% saying always and 34% saying sometimes.`

TIL that Ryan Reynolds is a fan of ALF.

And the classic ALF show will be showing in Reynolds' Maximum Effort channel, showing on platforms like Fubo, Tubi, and Amazon Freevee.

Save the cheerleader, save the world.

Heroes may be getting a reboot.

I absolutely loved the first season. After that... ugh. I know they got caught up in the writers strike, but my final opinion was that they only had the one good story with Sylar and didn't expect to get renewed and were caught unprepared when they did.
