When I heard that George Lucas was working on a personal project called Red Tails, and that he'd been wanting to make it for a long time, I expected another work of fantasy. Turned out it's actually historical fiction.

Can't say I'm especially interested in what I saw, but it's always nice to hear about a Hollywood movie that has a primarily black cast and doesn't feel the need to shoehorn in a white guy as the main character.

This does look good. And the movie is actually based on a true story (about the Tuskegee Airmen in World War II).

Also, Lucas has spent over two decades trying to get the film made (the idea was first pitched in 1988).

The Airmen were the first thought when I read the thread title in the index for this forum, actually.

Personally, I think it's long overdue that they (and other minority groups during WW 2, at that) get more than the smattering of Hollywood attention they've gotten so far, and with it being a personal project for George Lucas it's not like the movie will be lacking for resources.

I am cautiously optimistic. I would love to see the real story of these guys made into a movie. Then again the last big WWII movie about something that needed no embellishment had Ben Afflack on board and blew major chunks.

My fingers crossed because this could be epic, one way or another.

The screenplay was written by John Ridley (of Three Kings and Undercover Brother fame) and Aaron Mc Gruder (creator of The Boondocks). It's in good hands.

Wow. I'd heard about this being in development hell and thought it would never see the light of day.

I didn't write any of that.

So we're getting a remake/re-vision of the The Tuskegee Airmen movie?
