My current project actually started as a crossover of at least four anime series that is mixed with my original idea which I had since I was 12. I have to give fanfic a lot of credits. grin

Thread Hop: Writing Excuses brought up the great point that writing fan fiction helps to teach you how to work to create the best story while being restricted by existing rules, laws and histories; Which in turn forces authors to be more creative.
