Okay, I'm writing a short story. I've got the beginning already written, the ending more or less planned out and a general idea of what happens. The problem is that I've having some trouble figuring out the middle. I've got to the point where the protagonist has encountered the possible-Humanoid Abomination, realised that there is some very strange about him and started to be curious about him but I'm having trouble thinking of a way to get him to act on said curiousity. In fishing terms, the fish (aka the protagonist) had spotted the shiny lure but while I already know how to reel him in I've still got to get him on the hook first.

What do they do in their first encounter? Does the abomination make him some sort of offer, or does he get curious on his own account? (The former's a little easier to write, but it sounds like you might be going for the latter, in which case a lot more context is necessary.)

Okay, first off, it's a possible Humanoid Abomination, whether or not he actually is one or if he's just a really strange and rather unnerving human is left deliberately unclear.

Secondly, yes, it's the latter option. At the moment the protagonist has just realised that there's something odd about the new guy in town and become mildly curious due to there being nothing else of interest going on and him being really, really bored. I just need to figure out how to spur him into acting on that curiousity, something which would most likely lead to him doing something that is generally best avoided with beings of that ilk, namely bringing himself to his attention.

Bump since it's dropped down the list fairly quickly.

So the abomination does something abominable, or something that could be construed as abominable. Maybe he rescues a dog/cat and the protag assumes he's taking it home as food or worse.

Some context would help. What sort of abomination are we talking about?

The sort that is almost indistinguishable from a normal human unless you see them doing something really abnormal. Note that I said 'almost indistinguishable'; he may look and sound like a fairly ordinary, easy-going young man but something about him seems ever so slightly off. It's also implied that while he's not actively malicious towards people, his morality is more blue and orange then black and white and that he regards the world around him as less 'real' then himself, for want of a better way of putting it.
