This thread's for all of the X-Men comics and spin-offs (X-Force, X-Factor, New Mutants etc.), whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate X-Men, X-Men 2099, X-Men "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- X-Men 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Wolverine, Deadpool, Ms. Marvel and Cable.
- Characters and comics that originated in X-Men and its related books but are no longer connected to the franchise are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their X-Men related stories here.
Discussions that are only about X-Men adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).
I have to say that the X Men franchise has been going on for decades. Maybe not as many as the Superman franchise has, but it still has quite a number to it.
One thing I am certain of is that the franchise seems to be subverting Status Quo Is God in recent years. Magneto and Professor Xavier seem to be fading into the background, with Cyclops and Wolverine taking their places. A lot of villains associated to the X-Men have been killed off and have actually stayed dead so far.
All this gives me the general impression that the franchise is trying to reinvent itself. Do you think that's what's going on here?

Wait, I just realized something.
Back when I followed the X-Books, Emperor Vulcan was going on in space but back on Earth, wasn't Hope supposed to be the...hope of mutantkind? She seemed like she was intended to be a pretty pivotal character.
Bu twiki tells me she's in a coma now? They just dropped that whole plotline so they could focus on the Phoenix and dumb Avengers vs. X-Men? I mean, they got Jean back, who needs Hope or Rachel. (even though neither of them are Jean but I guess the editors and writers don't understand this)
Seems like everything that was building up back then just got thrown to the wayside.

Nope, Hope fulfilled her destiny during Avengers vs X-Men. After Cyclops was defeated, the Phoenix went into Hope and with Scarlet Witch's help, she restored mutantkind so that new mutants could be born.
After that was over, however, she bounced around until Si Spurrior's X-Force, where she was in a coma for most of the book, but actually also was a character who could control technology. (It's sort of complicated.) Anyway, at the end of the book, she got better and took over X-Force from Cable and kicked him out since he had done a bunch of bad stuff.
Right now, she might still be running X-Force, although most of the members are currently in Uncanny X-Men I believe.
Damn she kicked out her dad. Fuck that's rude as hell.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Well, he did do a bunch of shady as hell shit, like, uh, torture and murder, in order to save her.
Si Spurrior's X-Force was pretty dark, although it was also really, really good.
Was that the one where Cable looked like Solid Snake & Marrow came back?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Yep, that's the one.
@alliterator
Oh well, fair enough. Good to here she's still around then.
As for Cable doing shady stuff though...X-Force is all about shady stuff. That's something I hold against Cyclops, he assigned X-23 to his murder squad. That's kind of super horrible.
"Give your genetic material to me" should be Sinister's catchphrase.
Yeah, Spurrior's X-Force, however, was all about getting people to root for X-Force doing shady stuff and then pull back the curtain to show that, no, really, doing all this stuff is really bad. The Big Bad of the series ended up being Fantomex and the lesson of the book ended up being "Even if you're doing bad things for good reasons, you are still doing bad things."

Yeah, Spurrier's X-Force was so good. It really deconstructed the entire point of X-Force, showing why they're bad, and arguing in favour of heroes being heroic.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.I remember a critique from somebody as to how they didn't like Spurrier's run because he flanderised the team into being worse than they were. As I'm not that familiar with X-Force, can someone answer how true or false this is?
Happy 25th anniversary X-Force. Here's hoping they get a new good book before the movie comes out.
Now that Cable's gonna be in the next Deadpool movie, it be cool to see an X-Force film along with it. Lord knows we need to see more mutants on the big screen & comic accurate.
Also I wonder how their gonna handle Cable's origin. I mean the simple thing would be to cut Madelyn out entirely & just make Jean his mom but it might be weird to movie goers to find out his dads Cyclops. I mean till Apocalypse which is like a month old, Scotts been almost a nonentity in the films so keeping him as Cable's dad would make him more important by extension. The ability to time-travel is already shown possible by Days of Future Past so no biggie there.
Just a feeling cause Cyclops has been shafted so much in the films like his role in the Phoenix story stolen by Wolverine in the movie. I half expect Wolverine to be Cable's dad, not Scott. I prolly shouldn't joke bout that, it might come true. Yeesh.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Why would him being Cyclops' son be weird?
Because Scott's a weenie and nobody likes him.
Up until this point, the films have pretty much treated Logan and Jean like the OTP.
Logan to Scott in X2: She chose you.
Why the Dangerous arc in Astonishing X-Men didn't make sense
I'm beginning to wonder if I actually should pick up modern X-Men. Between A Wizard Did It making Sabretooth good and the X-Men helping Apocalypse with some sort of genocide bomb, it really does feel like what a lot of fans have been telling me is true. Marvel is trying to axe the franchise because they are not going to help out their competition. (Fox)
Holy fuck!!!! I was just randomly reading the battle of the atom event page & I am suddenly reminded that when the event ended, Storm's daughter from the future (whatever he name was) stayed behind in the present.
I say holy fuck because my God I am shocked to high hell that I remember her. Has she ever been seen again after that single panel where she talked to her mom that she's staying behind at the end of the fucking event?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."She appeared in Storm's solo series but not in a major role.
And then they proceeded to unceremoniously kill off Scott in the next movie and continue with the Logan/Jean ship tease in both it and The Wolverine.
Which resulted in Jean going crazy and Logan having to kill her. No one in that love triangle ended up happy.
The director left to do Superman Returns and Scott's actor thought about joining him so the new team killed him off IIRC.

Well since they are reusing old storylines now my guess is Scott tried to use Terrigen mists to kickstart some X-genes and then they exploded everywhere and killed all mutants.
