@ the person who claims I was misleading with the title. At the time I opened this thread there were no media members allowed to cover the event as reporters at all and at least 2 reporters were arrested. This lasted for about 3 hours until the police found out that there were several dozen livestreams recording it all anyways and they dropped it.

Lastly, a judge has ordered the city of New York to allow the protesters the right to camp in the park.[1]

I can already hear folks getting pissy but...how long were the protestors supposed to be allowed to stay? How long before it was reasonable to ask them to leave?

I mean, that's the reason for this eviction(and every eviction of an OWS group). That the area needs to be cleaned for the "health and safety" of the protesters...

This! Too bas it wouldn't have ended well for OWS- no matter how well-armed they were. Let's keep in mind OWS is mostly consistent of people who can barely afford the bare necessities.

They're staying until our concerns actually get addressed. I don't see why we should respect a system that isn't respecting us.

The protesters need to be heard and seen until we get things fixed. Playing nice and quiet in a way that can be easily ignored is not going to work. And if the politicians don't like how long they've been forced to peaceably assemble and protest, then well, said politicians are free to get off their asses and start fixing things any time they please.

Damn Straight - I said it before, I'll say it again.

I'm through with gov't not listening to us the 99% and doing things only for the 1% (who son't deserve jack shit except to have their money burned or stolen from them by people like us who truly need it). It's time to make/force them to listen to us for a change!

I'm sorry I have to suggest violent revolution/anarchy against them (AT ALL, because I do know better than that), but if things keep going the way they are and gov't continuies not to listen to us... I'm sorry. I don't know what else to suggest! but peaceful isn'rt working out like it should anymore, especially hearing such bad news like THIS!

You know what? I'm gone. I'm just hoping for the best and that OWS not only continues, but intensifies as a result of this fascism - and not just at Wall Street, but anywhere where this is unfortunately happening!

A suicide in Vermont, and a murder "near" the OWS camp in Oakland...

I can understand the removal of Oakland's OWS... There were protesters admittedly at the site... But I don't see there being health or safety issues in NYC because of either instance occurring in different states(or health and safety issues in Denver or Chicago for that matter)...

I admit I'm starting to sympathize with Lost. OWS has been trying to do this peacefully, and in return they get abused by police and vilified by the very citizens whose rights they're fighting for. I'm not sure what it's going to take for the politicians and naysayer citizens to sit up and listen.

So after they get evicted from Zuccoti Park, they show up at a construction site near Canal St. and proceed to enter it. Not remotely public space, and when called on it, one protestors says "We know we're not supposed to be here, but it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission".

Oh wow. Ahahahahaah.

Stuff's about to go down in a big way, I bet.

Don't get ahead of yourselves with revolution talk. OWS and sister movements need to keep to the same tactics But More So. They go violent, they lose support in a hurry and become relegated to the same trash bin as those right wing militias.

^ Worse. Those right wing militias as perceived as standing for something. If OWS gets more and more violent they'll be relegated as just an unchecked mob destroying things. A riot, nothing more.

...Frankly, I'm seeing a lot more violence from the police overall than from the protesters overall. Some of the practices being used put me in mind of British 'kettling' - you can't exactly put a mass of humanity into an intentionally bad situation and then complain like you're an innocent victim when they backlash against it.

I've got a question. Are there other protest options we can explore? I'm thinking of strikes. If even a third of the city simply didn't set foot in a store for the day, that would deal a CRUSHING blow to Bloomberg and his corporacrats.

Was this the American equivalent of the massive Tahrir Square protests?

^^ In this economy, striking will only weaken your cause. You don't strike in a severe labor surplus.

The only real option they have is vote and most of those folks don't come across as voting is a priority for them.

Of course violent right-wing Tea Party, "I want everything back in 1850's because I"m a retard" movement gets a free ride. I wonder who the police is biased against.

(I don't even agree with OWS a lot but damn, you just don't fight peaceful protesters)
