So this is how OWS ends? How unceremonious...

[up][up]I don't know if this will end OWS...it might just be the shot in the arm that keeps it going.

If anything, the public's going to get more and more enraged.

The sin of silence when they should protest makes cowards of men.

In a good and rational world, this would just be fuel on the fire, but American society is so disconnected from reality that I'm not sure it'll help...

There ain't much going on to distract people with the economy the way it is. If this was the 90s, you'd be on to something (indeed, thats why the Battle for Seattle never really caught hold, despite being essentially the same thing as the Occupy movement).

As such, I agree this will give them the shot in the arm. Where it GOES from here however...anyone's guess.

Yeah, there seems to be a scary number of people who are either apathetic or think the protesters deserved what they got from the police, and indeed the police didn't go far enough and should have just killed them all. Many people who think that the things the protesters want will hurt our country instead of saving it.

I mean, it almost feels impossible to ever fix this country, as we'd have to fight not just the establishment but our own brainwashed fellow citizens...

Even in the "terrorist" Serbia, this guy would've been laughed off and locked in a mental hospital.

@Milos

Yeah, that really took the cake.

In order to properly care for the poor, you need people giving money regularly to charities, not just whenever they feel like it or around holidays. And if you're required to get regular payments from people, then it becomes essentially the same as taxes, just much less efficient.

On top of that, the poor and middle class give to charity more than the rich do. So whee, once again we get to carry around and do the rich's job for them.

Never mind that we wouldn't even have poor people needing help if the corporations and businesses offered enough living wage jobs.

While I'm not sure how long the protestors thought they were going to just take over private property; a sneak attack in the middle of the night wasn't the way to go.

It's sad that just when North Africa starts to gain freedom the US steps onto the slippery slope towards totalitarism.

I feel that people would have only paid attention had Wall Street been bombed. Especially since violence is all people care about now.

Touche.

The park is private.

Zuccotti Park was formerly Liberty Plaza. As part of the kind of dealmaking that the "99%" bemoan, Brookfield Properties got a huge contract to redevelop the area post 9/11. As part of the cushy deal they had to provide some sort of "public space".

That's how Zuccotti Park came to be. It's open to the public, but administered by Brookfield Properties, not the City Of New York.

By commencing such oppressive actions, the NY authorities have set themselves as undemocratic. This disgrace to liberty, whose statue set word to guard the poor and so is probably crying due to the mess that cause people to make the protest in response, sends a message that America is not a free as it proclaims. Do the NY authorities know how far they set democracy back via their response? Such overreaction of the most disgraceful!

[up][up][up] Worst still, People are going to forget this, just to suck more corporatist teet (when that's the problem) - this is the kind of fascism I fear is going to and has turned America into a hellhole that only gang dominance can salvage in small packs.

This is a bad day for all Americans and they fail to realize it, becuase they're afraid that not finding a job where they're are none is crimimal, when they should be rebelling like OWS was doing!

This is only the beginning of a totalitarian Police State besides media manipulation/domestic corporate terrorism, or worse, Junta (military gov't)(which is what the GOP really want, hence all the militarty spending on weapons instead of education, infastructure, and healthcare)!
