"Hard to picture" is an understatement...we might just have to go with a visual pun or lampshade of some sort
I think showing the different stages of an interlaced PNG or progressive JPG might be the best route. No idea how to get them, though.
Yeah, unwritten rule number one: follow all the unwritten procedures. - CamacanI think a GIF is the only way to do this. Sadly, that isn't an option, right?
Right.
A Visual Pun or lampshade is the only way I can see being able to pic this. Should we ditch the current pic in the meantime?

I would say so. It's pretty much the complete opposite of what the trope is.
Definitely nuke the current one.
Pulled...no official motion but the sentiment of the thread is clear.
Hmm there must be a comic about the elevators and loading in Mass Effect somewhere.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Ta-daaa! Doesn't really show it though.
The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.Damn....
I suppose a screen of say World Of Warcraft where the textures arnt quite loaded yet but you can still move around (then consecutive panels of them appearing) would work... my old computer did that alot but not so much with my new computer.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!That would work well enough for me.
That would work better if it was something like showing an actual picture loading that way.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Adam7 interpolation can be fairly easy to depict; say, take several copies of a sample image and pixelate it at various size blocks. Then you can montage the results.
Hmm... this is just a practice shot, but does it have potential?
Or we could do a montage using something like Wikipedia: awesome smiley interlaced◊

An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Wow, that TV Tropes logo is cool. I wouldn't mind a paneled take on the happy face GIF, either.
Remember the 16-bit era when pixelate-out was a standard screen-fade in SNES games?
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Hell, I remember it in NES games. Now give me my Geritol.
I like the TV Tropes logo
Just make it a collage of the logo, so that we know what's going on.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.I don't understand what that's supposed to be showing me.
Rhymes with "Protracted."Right. On second thought, I don't think a depiction of interlacing techniques is a good fit for what the trope is about — ways that videogames find to hide their loading sequences completely.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.This trope isn't about masking the loading completely, it's about the ways some games are built to load data while the game is being played to avoid loading screens. There are plenty of bits in the description that discuss how it doesn't always work properly.
That said, I'm not sure if a still image can really demonstrate this all that well.
Reaction Image RepositoryAnd interlacing's listed as an example on the page itself.
Yeah, unwritten rule number one: follow all the unwritten procedures. - CamacanHave you guys seen this video of Rage texture-popping?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1k_Dv46bBw
Seems like someone with Rage installed could get a good image of the game world with the default crummy 8x8 textures.
Come on. I know this would be hard to picture, but this is just lazy.
