An Ambitious Project Has Begun

Before I start this, I want to point out that I am unfortunately quite new to this forum system on here. I wasn't even aware there was one until I was attempting to find a method to do something specific I will elaborate on later.

But first, an explanation: I have been writing for several years consistently. I have yet to complete that one thing I've longed to do, no matter how much I have wanted to, that coveted novel I've been trying in vain to create for years now. I have jumped between three different projects, never entirely abandoning any one project. But now, now the time has come to switch gears entirely.

I found Tvtropes.org a mere month or so ago. In that time I have done SO MUCH RESEARCH. On first hearing of the site I thought it would be amusing to make a story that contained no tropes listed. A link to "the tropeless tale" reversed this idea entirely, as it was now proven entirely impossible. Now, now I attempt the considerably less impossible.

I hate to do this publicly, but to be fair what IS the worst possible result? I am notoriously bad at finding things, having found this forum itself that is linked all over this site a mere twenty minutes ago. In any case. I decided to commit a minor bird killing spree with a single stone in this case.

First, I have wanted to write a work that is simply fun to write. I am taking a break from the admittedly fairly grimdark story I first started, and the other two works as well that truly were not fun to write. So now I turn to this idea I had, to make a book that is at current time only an extremely basic and loose idea. The plan is to make a work that I can cram as many tropes into as possible while still being a discernible, and hopefully decent to good story.

The second idea was to find some way to honor this site that started this idea, but I was and still am in need of a way to contact some sort of authority figure, which I have absolutely no idea how to do, to confirm my preferred method, calling it some variant of "TV Tropes: The Book" (very shoddy working title).

The third idea is that I could by making this novel of sorts free to all online, I could simultaneously at least attempt to promote this website to any of the seemingly few left who don't know about it, and also get the inspiration for the work I am creating.

The basic plan is I intend to force myself to complete it by making it published online, by chapter, and providing links to any who are interested at all in it so I have pressure NOT to fail here. To also add to the challenge and help with ideas, the plan is to go wherever I am able to and ask those I can for lists of tropes that they would want to see in this work. I reserve the right to utilize any method of trope usage detailed at the page "Playing With A Trope" or if absolutely necessary omitting specific tropes from the story. The idea is that I set a limit to the number of tropes submitted (so as to avoid people copy/pasting the entire site) to, say, 10. Any trope that is repeated among multiple users I will make sure is, if at all possible, portrayed more prominently than any others who are not, based on number of submissions. The only limits or rules to tropes I have past this is that I will not play straight any particularly horrifying or disgusting trope. By this I mean there will be no horrific or over-the-top gore, violence and such featured at all prominently.

This project is barely even into the first planning phases, and will likely take awhile to reach fruition. I make no promises this will ever be finished, but I am going to do everything I can possibly think of to make this work.

One final note: If I posted this in the wrong place I profusely apologize and wholeheartedly support a move to wherever anyone else deems it correctly placed. I apologize for not knowing this forum AT ALL.

You want Fast Eddie, I think? Go to his page and click the button that looks like an envelope on the

bar on his page to send a PM.

That said, I don't really see the point of this project *

. I think trying to shoehorn tropes into a story isn't a good approach at all, why bother challenging yourself this way?

TV Tropes didn't invent the idea of tropes, so I don't think this approach is really "honoring" the wiki either.

This doesn't strike me as particularly ambitious; people have done similar things as exercises. It's a simple enough concept that if you'd thought of it a week ago it could have been a good Na No Wri Mo topic.

Given that TV Tropes is licensed under Creative Commons, you don't need to ask anyone's permission before using the name or any of the other contents.
