Motion to pull

Misleading, doesn't adequately demonstrate the trope.

I've tried looking for the Ur-Example from The Odyssey, but it's hard to find images that are clear enough. This is probably the best, and I'm not sure whether it works if you're not familiar with the story.

[up] Good example...not sure if it would work for the page or not.

Those sirens look like harpies.

[up] Just in case you don't know - Odysseus and his crew are sailing through the Harpies, who use their Compelling Voice to lead sailors to their deaths. Odysseus had his crew tie him to the mast and plug their ears so they can't hear him begging to be released to the Harpies, and are sailing on to the next...wherever they went after that.

[up]Sirens, actually. (But sirens and harpies are depicted as very similar in ancient art.)

I guess it's not a very good picture unless you know the source material. If we could find a clear one of him being tied up (that makes it clear that he's doing it voluntarily), that might be an improvement. No luck so far, though.

Would turning this Bloom County strip into a 2x2 panel format work?

[up] We can't use the entire strip...now, the first panel, combined with the last panel with some text in between, that could work.

124 should do most of it. Otherwise 38 has no meaning.

Had to go with vertical, too wide to put three panels next to each other. I can go back and do a two on top, one on the bottom if that's preferred.

I think it work better with panels 1, 3 and 4. Less text, but still gets the point across.

I'm not sure why it should have a beat panel.

Because I like beat panels probably.

Honestly, I'm not terribly comfortable using all but one panel of a 4-panel cartoon...it feels like stretching fair use past the breaking point. Now, if we used the first and last panels with a beat between them, adding Opus' "37" into the first panel, I actually think that would work pretty well.

No, I meant a literal *beat* graphic between them...if that looks bad, I suppose just having the two panels with the 37 in the first one would work.
