To raise reputations, you need to liberate towns using units with filled with characters with high alignment.
To raise alignment of a character, you can...
- Have the character defeat an enemy with higher level.
- Have the character defeat an enemy with lower alignment (eg: Wizard, Berserkers, Undeads, etc)
I played the game a lot. Really good game and needs more love. Will benefit a lot with an Updated Re-release like Tactics Ogre IMO.
Yeah, it's like... Tactics Ogre is available on PSP, Ogre Battle isn't. What's up with that? (Seems like the issue is just that the Tactics series is more popular than the Battle series)
I'm kinda thinking the game might not be for me at this point, but I'll keep trying it to see if it grows on me.
Incidentally, the Ogre Battle article needs some cleanup. The part where it describes Tactics is just a copypaste of Tactics' own entry, it doesn't give enough gameplay or release information, and skips a few games in the series.

visit my blog!I suspect the lack of a remake is because of Ogre Battles bizarre game mechanics. Its not as intuitively obvious how to update and improve it, as opposed to Tactics Ogre.
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comOne way would be to make the commands more obvious, and make it clearer how to do things like customizing the units—I swear that until just now, I thought each group came preconfigured and couldn't be altered.
Otherwise, I don't see why they couldn't just straight-port it to, say, the PSP, maybe enhance the graphics, and include either the N64 or the Neo Geo Pocket Color game as a bonus (particularly the latter as currently its Japan-only).
But I'm glad at least that there was a Playstation port. If Ogre Battle had remained on the SNES, I might never have played it.
Currently I'm at the Sharom District, and I just realized the manual tells you how to find a secret character who helps you defeat Gilford. Gonna go try it.
visit my blog!I got rather far into Ogre Battle 64 but nuked my save. Someday, I would like to return to it.
It helps to explore as much of the map as possible to find hidden items, or at least that's how it was in OB64.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyI have a copy of the PSX game.
... a japanese copy -_-
Which is a good game to get into if you're a first timer?
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Yeaaaaaaaaaah, Ogre Battle is awesome. Sad that there aren't more games.
You could always start with the first one. It actually seems to me like you should still be able to play that Japanese copy—you won't get the dialogue but the game itself is somewhat self-explanatory.
Yeah, for being an apparently highly-regarded series, it seems like there aren't many installments. Just three (that I know of) for Ogre Battle and another three (again, that I know of) for Tactics Ogre.
I managed to snag a copy of Ogre Battle 64. If I read the description right, its complete—meaning it includes the box, manual and everything. A copy in that condition is pretty rare, so I'm wondering what kind of reinforced safe deposit box I should put it in.
visit my blog!I really liked the concept, but found all the managing really confusing. It's the kind of confusing that keeps making you feel like you are doing it wrong, no matter the result.
A Little streamlining would be nice, so to speak.
I don't think it needs streamlining, so much as less Guide Dang It!. A complex system is fine, *if they actually tell you the rules.*
( why yes, I am *still* bitter about being fucked in the alignment meter because I dared to use efficient tactics to defeat my enemies. . . )
Home of CBR Rumbles-in-Exile: rumbles.fr.yuku.comI think what they were hoping for is that you'd learn the game as you played, and then when you re-play it (to get a different one of the sixteen different endings) you'll have a better idea of what you're doing.
I just got Ogre Battle 64, and it seems a little more streamlined, but mostly plays the same.
The popularity of Tactics Ogre seems to me like a case of Sequel Displacement.
visit my blog!Did they ever explain Chaos Frame in Ogre Battle? I wound up getting the bad end in 64 since I had no idea that you generally were suppose to match alignments to towns.
I haven't seen it mentioned yet, but I'm only five maps in.

So I'm playing Ogre Battle for the first time (for the curious I'm playing the PS 1 version, which despite being the "Limited Edition" is actually more common and less expensive than the SNES version)
The game so far is fun, but kind of confusing... it's like a pseudo-Real Time Strategy where when your units meet the enemy, they go into an RPG esque battle which (for the most part) you can't directly control... or can you? Actually, there's a lot of stuff about the game I'm still trying to figure out, and a few pointers would help.
Also, is there some way to raise/lower your reputation besides drawing the right tarot cards? So far mine has been middling.
Thanks in advance.
