The government is going to regret this when China plants a red flag on the Red Planet.
Byte MeEmphasis mine.
Well... I must say, it's official: the magic has gone away.
The fucking Republicans wanted their spending cuts. Well, they fucking got them. I hope they're happy. I really do.
;_;
I am now known as Flyboy. They'll never be happy unless the government budget is 100% military spending.
Byte MeNot only that, but NASA is an "essential" program. I mean, I know there are other space programs, but...
weirded out of contextI can't say I care about this. I'm most interested in living things, and until our telescopes find signs of life, I'd rather spend the money on helping life right here.
That's Feo . . . He's a disgusting, mysoginistic, paedophilic asshat who moonlights as a shitty writer—Something AwfulThere are like 10 topics about space on the first page...
x5 I don't think that the space program should be halted, but we should have a plan before actually doing something. Do we need the planet because we have some specific objective to accomplish?

Now using Trivialis handle.Exactly. x(
weirded out of contextI'm with Feotakahari. Don't really care. There's still weird things right under our oceans that we haven't discovered and we've been so focused on space - which has shown little to very little - that we just deem it as unimportant.
I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -WanderlustwarriorThis is, like, nuts. Space exploration has so much potential knowledge and usefulness open to us, and without it we wouldn't have... hell, much of our modern communications network and many of our technologies.
Is somebody spearheading a letter-writing campaign or... something?
Apparently I am adorable, but my GF is my #1 Groupie. (Avatar by Dreki-K)Well of course he has, when you get people like those in this very thread who act like the missions to space have somehow failed.
I have nothing further to say.
go ahead and do every stupid thing you can imagineHeavy, we haven't had a primary focus on space for like two decades. Also, last I checked, NASA funding didn't necessarily take away funding for other things like ocean exploration. (Which, far as I can tell, is going on ahead full steam through various types of funding. And having all sorts of innovation.) Focus on one thing doesn't mean other areas of science are suffering.
I'm more disappointed than mad. But see, this is why we need to vote out the Republicans. And vote in people who realize we need education to be more competitive.
Space is awesome. That being said, exploring other planets and shit is very expensive, and that's a lot of money that could be put to other more useful shit on this planet. So I don't much care.
Power corrupts. Knowledge is Power. Study hard. Be evil.Agreed with feotakahari & Viral Lamb.
Really, you people are just disappoint because your dreams of space things happening in your life time become smaller (not that space things aren't long term things already...)

I'm having a Heroic BSoD right now - I can't believe this is really happening. I just hope that the rumors turn out to be just that - rumors.
Let's be honest here: what made space travel romantic was the hope of naked red women on Mars.
“Love is the eternal law whereby the universe was created and is ruled.” — St. BernardUmm actually yeah when you have a pot of money and part of it is going somewhere, that means that part isn't going elsewhere.
We could be using that money for a lot more things. Space is cool, trust me, and we've come far, but what's the point? Metaphorically, space isn't going anywhere.
I'm pretty sure the concept of Law having limits was a translation error. -WanderlustwarriorSpace exploration has done more for our technological advancement than almost anything else in recorded human history excepting war itself. And space exploration is much better for us than war. This ISN'T just a matter of having our dreams smashed.

Yup o-o Don't make heavy claims without evidence.
^How does that prove anything?(How are landmines related to space? Aka, its different thing whether Space development has progressed the stuff and whether NASA has done other things than space stuff.)

I agree with the other people in this topic who said this is a good idea.
Where I come from, there are countless desperate, starving, homeless, hopeless people within walking distance. There are people in the world who don't let women in public. There are people getting brutally repressed. There is still genocide, slavery, and terrorism in the world today. It's frankly kind of insulting to them who have real problems when people think our effort is better spent light-years away from here.
Still Sheepin'^^Don't tell me "Read the links" o-o Out of those, stuff like that firehosing thing and footbal helmet padding thing might be something you can attribute to space, but other stuff? You could just tell NASA focus on other things than Space with that proof
You asked for evidence of the technological advancement that the space program has provided. I gave you some evidence. If you're not going to read it then it's your right to stay ignorant.
Obama readies to blast NASA
What the hell is wrong with people.
I just...I don't even know what to say. This is so idiotic.
