Again though, I wasn't sure but it sounded un-ironic enough to just go with it.

There are probably people who believe that sort of thing, but I assure you that they don't have such a good grasp of spelling and punctuation, and they're not down with gender reassignment surgery either.

But I don't see how most of the people on this forum can do much about rape of lesbians in Africa, given that the vast majority of us don't have any say in African governments. If it were me and emigration wouldn't get you shot, I'd sure as fuck leave. Yes, moving while poor is a bitch, but a third (IIRC) of the population of Ireland managed to do it while facing starvation and a much more hostile American ethnic climate, so...

OP, did you know that you can be imprisoned for being gay in parts of Africa? And Ugandans were seriously considering a bill that would have introduced the death penalty for being gay? Such a law is already implemented in a couple other parts of Africa.

Huh, didn't expect South Africa to have legal same-sex marriage though.

South Africa is one of the most democratic countries out there, and I can't think many people responsible for ending apartheid - still huge figures in their politics - would have a very anti-gay platform.

(AIDS is much more equal-opportunity in Africa, of course, and every little bit of monogamy helps.)

Honestly, being anything in most countries in Africa sucks pretty bad.

Exceptions being some parts of North Africa, and South Africa.

Well, I know my topic isn't exactly news, but I'm amazed at how much stuff that's decided at birth, that one has no control over, can basically ruin your life from the start.

Realistically, being a poor anything in a lot of countries sucks very badly. Being a woman, black, and/or homosexual just makes things that much worse.

I wonder why people are talking as though there's something that stands out about being black in Africa, though.

Also Saying that your a woman and a lesbian is a bit redundant don't you think?

Nah, that's all right. "Gay" seems to be a word that leans toward the male, for some reason. But generally speaking, blacks aren't any more oppressed than anyone else in Africa, right?

White lesbians have less trouble. The only way these people may have it worse is if they were somehow handicapable and/or with AIDS

As I say, I don't think being black, no cultural qualifiers added, gets you discriminated against in Africa.
