Well it's certainly an improvement. I can get "being their cheerful, innocent orphan selves." from that.
How about Oliver from Oliver And Company?
The Protomen enhanced my life.
He's a cat, which could present some problems. I'd suggest the original Oliver Twist, but 1) I have no pictures at hand and 2) I don't see what's so bad about the current picture suggestions.

Granted I know these orphans will have backstories that make you sob your eyes out...but shouldn't the picture of this trope be more....

I'm aware of that, but it seems a little easier to convey "orphan" with a human.
Although that box actually does a pretty good job of it - the problem, as the previous poster said, is that it's not exactly "heartwarming" so much as pitiable.

... which I'm inclined to guess it does, on looking at the fairly JAFAAC current image there. May I have the official go-ahead to replace the Film subpage's current image with the Oliver And Company image a few posts up?

This girl doesn't look orphaned in the least. For all we can tell, that woman is her mother. And having a living mom usually means that you're not an orphan.
