Lucid, adamant, and informed people are nevertheless vulnerable to psychological stress and pressure.
I think there’s a global conspiracy to see who can get the most clicks on the worst liesIf so, they are not yet lucid. If they can't make such a decision absent outside pressure, they aren't ready to do it, yet.
Granted, in reality such a thing is impossible, but high standards are necessary to prevent people who might otherwise still lead quite productive and happy lives from making poor and rash decisions...
I am now known as Flyboy.I should think anyone capable of signing a Living Will and/or a DNR should be okay.
Honestly, I'd prefer "If I'm in a coma, please utilize Physician Assisted Suicide" to be part of a Living Will.
What standards? People can appear entirely lucid and yet be hiding all sorts of crazy anxieties (believe me, I speak from personal experience).
I think there’s a global conspiracy to see who can get the most clicks on the worst liesComa patients... are totally different ballgames. It really only enters a gray area if there's no living will. If there's a living will, we go with that, period. If not...
Ninja! <_< >_>
Yeah, such is why we have psychiatrists.

I am now known as Flyboy.Well, Living Wills don't have any language about termination, only about denying nutrition and hydration.
Physician Assisted suicide would allow for termination language to be added.
Well, such is what needs to be changed, then.
I am now known as Flyboy. You can't commit suicide in a coma, the only thing I can think of would be hooking up some sort of a lethal drug injector to a MRI and a dead man switch.
If you outright ask a love one to Mercy Kill you if you fall into a coma that's different ballgame.

hashtagsarestupidLiving will should include physician assisted suicide terminology, and physicians should be allowed to prescribe intentionally lethal medications to patients. That's all I ask.
...prescribe.
I am now known as Flyboy.that's pushing the definition of 'suicide' to beyond breaking point tomu.
hashtagsarestupidI have no problem with my earlier suggested proposal.
Just as long as we are clear.
hashtagsarestupidObviously, if a pharmacist is prescribing the medication, it would only be if the patient has explicitly requested it, in case that wasn't clear.
A pharmacist can't prescribe anything. They can only dispense it. I presume that you meant "a physician" there.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it....this isn't something we'd want to be casually giving out at the pharmacy, nor would we want it happening at home...
I am now known as Flyboy.Well, whatever I meant to say then. STOP RAGGING ON ME <runs off crying>
You guys know what he means. look you went and made him cry now
hashtagsarestupidNo, I actually thought he was honestly suggesting over-the-counter suicide...

Been proposed before. The Dutch, it seems, were once keen on being pioneers in matters such as these.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
Though not the only option, I should hope. My father was only 62 when he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma after all.

...the Dutch further convince me of their lack of common sense, by wanting to have such a thing happen unsupervised...
I am now known as Flyboy.Who said anything about it being unsupervised?
When they're lucid, informed, and adamant, it's time to give up on persuasion.
